Wild plums!

A few Sundays back I rounded out the first MoFo weekend with a few snapshots from the Portland Farmer’s Market. This precious weekly ritual, our Saturday morning market, is one of my greatest pleasures. Perhaps these new photos will inspire you, the way that my market always inspires me. Fall is such an exciting season!

Purple potatoes

My fellows in flannel, oh so Pacific northwest!

RAW apple pie – breakfast of champions!

Maybe my favorite thing about the Pacific northwest – the apples!

Waits takes an important call.

I had big plans for this pumpkin . . .

BIG PLANS!

Beautiful pictures – I love those mushrooms, heirloom tomatoes, & heirloom pumpkins. Looks like a fun way to spend the day!

Gorgeous pictures. I love that site’s tagline: “No seitan! No whey!” I love seitan but it’s cute.

    Ahoy!
Not sure if Waits is just playing telephone, but thought it may be worthwhile to mention the Environmental Working Group website and all their data on cell phone use.

Apparently, cell phone use is especially dangerous for kids because their bones are still all soft and porous, and they are still developing! Here’s a link to the research, including one report that looks at health risks in children using cell phones:

I loooove Wild Plums! There’s, like, 3-4 trees just on my block. And Quinces, Mandarines, Peaches, Lemons, Oranges, Pomegranates and every second house is hedged with Rosemary… Being an avid urban forager this pleases me greatly. And all the ones in front yards? They let everyone help them selves!
Those beets look so majestic!! I’m waiting on my late-spring haul of beets to preserve them using my Nanna’s recipe. So close.

I love you FM posts! Our weekly market visits are the highlights of my week too. ‘Specially the Saturday one because my little family is all together & it’s a great way to spend the morning together. My only regret is that we have to drive there :/

Beautiful produce! Speaking of the purple potatoes–I had to stop off at a Whole Foods to buy them for my 3 year old nephew. He didn’t believe me that there was such a thing! lol
