Well my friends, we’ve come to the end of this journey. Tomorrow is Labor Day – the official finish of summer – and therefore this will be the final installment of the Sunday Morning Cocktail series. This has been one of my very most favorite collections I’ve done here on BA. And of course, I saved a fun one for last!

This dichotomous cocktail features calming mint, cooling cucumber, and a righteous injection of fearsome, fiery habanero peppers. Habaneros are hot hot hot – the perfect way to prolong these last precious days of summer.

A cobbler is a cocktail which features crushed ice. Did you know that? I didn’t, until I conceptualized and created this drink, and thus was responsible for naming it. Crushed ice is easy to make by wrapping ice cubes in a terrycloth towel and then pulverizing them. AKA, therapy.

To make a Fiery Mint & Cucumber Cobbler:

Mince 1/2 a small habanero pepper and add it to a shaker. Habanero is crazy like a fox. Use gloves.

To the shaker, add a handful of diced cucumbers. We used Persians which have a delightfully sweet and thin skin, but if you’re using something else like hothouse or English, you’ll want to peel them first.

Muddle!

To the shaker, add 2 ounces of mint-infused vodka (see infusions instructions here; mint takes about a week) and 1-2 teaspoons of agave syrup (or simple syrup). Top with ice cubes and shake vigorously to combine.

Fill your glass with crushed ice. Pour the contents of the shaker into the glass, using a fine mesh sieve to strain. You can also add some cucumber rounds at the bottom of the glass, if you like.

Top off with club soda, stir, and garnish with a cucumber, a pepper, mint, or a crazy combination of all three. Enjoy the sweet, cooling sips and the fiery, dragons-breath exhales. This is definitely not a boring cocktail!

Drinking the Farmer’s Market: The Perfect “Pimm’s Cup”, with Homemade Ginger-Infused Vodka

Last week’s Sunday Morning Cocktail was a simple, modern take on the traditional Moscow Mule. And with a little farmer’s market flair in the form of homemade strawberry-infused vodka, the Strawberry Mule was born. That drink was probably the most popular in the series, to date, which is why this week I’m so thrilled to [...]

Recipe: Rich and Creamy Coconut Peanut Butter

There is a certain well-known vegan company that makes a certain peanut butter product that is almost certainly laced with crack cocaine, because it is so certainly addictive. I kid! Seriously please don’t sue me. I just really, really adore that coconut peanut butter in a really really addiction-level way. Sweet and smooth and oh-so-rich, [...]
