The Weekend Send-Off

My week

What a week! And it’s Friday night and it’s after 10 and I’m just now able to sit down and write, so I’m going to keep this short and sweet. Straight into . . .

. . . Le Love List!

1. Dentist!.
It’s been over three years, oh god, and I was scared. But I have NO new cavities and I have EXCELLENT bone health and my gingivitis is minor and a direct result of nursing-related hormones (ie, will clear up when Waits weans). Fixed a cracked crown. Polished up the ol’ chompers and whattaya know, underneath the green juice and coffee stains, they’re still pretty pearly white. Wahoo!

2. Midwife.
All’s clear on the southern front! I also relinquished eight or so vials of blood for various hormone, nutrition, and general health tests. Results are trickling in but so far my thyroid is spectacular, my hormone levels all seem normal, and my serum B12 is in the upper range of normal, yay! (I use this spray, by the way) So far so good (great, even) but I’m still waiting for a few tests. I’m quite curious about my vitamin D levels . . .

NO I’M NOT PREGNANT! haha

Ironic apron for the win.

3. Bread From Scratch
Last weekend I baked my first loaf of soaked and soured (ie fermented) bread, using the sourdough starter I inherited from my father-in-law over the holidays. I can’t quite describe the feeling I got from baking my own bread, lovingly getting it started late the night before, waking up early with Waits to knead together on the kitchen floor, checking in on it throughout the day, and then finally, that smell that crept through the whole house as it warmed in the oven for dinner. It was maybe the best bread I’ve ever had, and making it made me feel indescribably, inexplicably happy.

There will be more bread, oh yes but there will be more bread!

Also! raw lemon bars // Waits riding on my back as I crawl around the house on all fours // long walks with the ones I love // triple batches of my raw tahini dip // Waits getting giddy over “burfs” and “fwaps” (burps and farts, of course) // Waits starting to string multiple words together // spinach salad with kalamata olives, red onions, raw garlic, nutritional yeast, and grated carrot, oh my god I just can’t get enough! // the couch which is calling my name . . .

~~~
Alright guys, now it’s your turn – tell me what you’re loving this week!
My darlings, this happy little post will stay at the top of the page all weekend, so stop by any time to leave your Love List, ask a question, or offer some feedback! Or if you’re new, please introduce yourself and say ‘Oi!’! This is your community, so get involved!
Have a wonderful weekend guys!
    Hey lady! I love your love list. =)
    As for Vitamin D, I take the 2400 IU Deva pill every night, and most mornings I also have a squirt of this vegan D3. There’s also D in my fortified milks, AND I rarely wear sunscreen in my day-to-day life. I haven’t got my D test back though, so we’ll see where that gets me . . .
    Aw, thank you. I LOVE hearing that! =D
    Is the Finnish rye sourdough more like a really dark brown rye bread or rather lighter looking?
    I haven’t baked my own bread yet but my mom does it all the time and hers comes out really nice and dark. It’s sort of like traditional Estonian rye sourdough I guess, but I wonder what it is that really determines the hue of bread? My mom always adds a handful of hemp seeds which makes it perfect (:
    I wonder what my cat is doing in Portland? :O
    I used to never have *any* cavities until I didn’t visit the dentist for 2-3 years (pretty much the time I’ve been vegan) and all of a sudden they found like 5 cavities :S And I always brush my teeth really carefully and regularily every morning and every night.
    By the way, I recently finally tried your toothpaste recipe, it did turn out very saline, but I didn’t mind it. I do miss the extremely fresh feeling after using some crazy mint-flavoured foaming toothpaste full of chemicals (Colgate etc, although I know they’re the worst) and since the soda-based paste doesn’t foam at all and wants to run out of your mouth in seconds, I feel like I don’t brush my teeth for long enough anymore. Also, I’ve neved had issues with tender or bleeding gums but with the soda-based toothpaste they’ve started to bleed a little.
    So I’ve been wondering how the toothpaste worked out for you guys and if you’re still using it and happy with it? :)
    Ok, a quick love list, just for the kicks!
    1. My veganized boyfriend and how great of a cook he is!
    2. My kitty who has grown up so fast but is still amusing me with everything she does every day :D Animals are just amazing.
    3. The end of the term and planning of the next term and future in general :)
    It’s a little late to wish happy weekend, so I’m gonna say happy beginning of a new week!
    What I’m loving this week is sunflower seed butter. Golly, incredible. Can’t get enough.
    MAKING IT! Mmm, thanks. =)
    Oof, that’s a bummer about the cavities. I think that’s much more common after a few years without seeing the dentist. I was surprised I got so lucky!
    I’m back to using my homemade toothpaste recipe and I don’t have any problems with it. But it sounds like maybe you’ve got some stuff going on. Cavities and bleeding gums is not fun! Have you tried oil pulling? If the bleeding is due to bacteria/gingivitis, the oil pulling can really help with that.
    Good luck lady, and don’t get discouraged!
    Also . . . boyfriend? Is this why we havn’t seen you around here much lately??? ;-)
