The Weekend Send-Off

Mmmm, I miss that cotton candy hair. circa 2006

So there’s this meme on Tumblr (maybe other places too?) – “Flashback Fridays”. I’ve been doing a lot of flashback-ing of my own these last few days, because tomorrow, Damian and I will be celebrating five years of being together. Five years! It seems like such a long time (for both of us it’s our longest relationship) and simultaneously, so short (someday we’ll be celebrating 50, after all).

Anyways, I’ve been getting super nostalgic lately, digging through old photos, reminiscing our love story, and having these vivid dreams at night. Life is such a trip, and I’m so damn lucky to be along for this ride! So in honor of “Flashback Friday”, I wanted to share a few of my favorite photos from our very early days together . . .

Here’s to five – and fifty more. I LOVE YOU BABE!

Le Love List:

1. No-Nee
Waits just started saying “Mommy” last week. He always said “mama” before, and when he looked up at me and said “Mommy” for the first time, I straight-up got tears in my eyes. Damian was standing right there, and we both sort of began hooting and hollering and did a little family-style happy dance. So Waits thought that was just the neatest thing, so he said it again! Yay, more whooping! More dancing! Within a few minutes we had him saying “Daddy” (from “dada”), and it was like Dance Party USA up in this little rowhouse.

Well, all that positive reinforcement might have been a bit much. The “dogg-a” to “doggy” transition certainly works, but adding “ee” to the end of every word has become his new favorite game, and the results are not always so successful. Most notably, “no no” has morphed into “no-nee”. Which doesn’t make any sense, and nobody else understands. But can I just say . . . sweetest thing ever. I love it!

2. Sprouted, Dehydrated Buckwheat
I tend to go through food phases, and I am currently in the depths of a lurid love affair with buckwheat. I eat an enormous bowl of it every day and I can’t get enough! Sprouted, then dehydrated, served like cold cereal with cinnamon, stevia, and homemade almond milk, then – the clincher – topped with sliced bananas and an enormous scoop of peanut butter. That, my friends, is a micronutrient- and protein-packed breakfast bomb of DELICIOUS.

3. Absence Makes The Heart Grow Fonder
My Granny always used to tell me that, and it’s so true.

This week Damian went away for a short business trip. It was HARD to be on my own with Waits, and I was jealous that he was in SoCal soaking up 80º heat and staying in a posh hotel directly across the street from Native Foods (which I’m DYING to try!). But all that aside, damn I missed him and damn, it’s good to have him back.

Also! Brown corduroy baby blazers, when I say “I think I want to start fixing myself up again” and Damian says “I totally prefer you without makeup . . . I like that I could just LICK your face at any given time.” HA!, the perfect pair of jeans, when I say “I need to try and dress up more, I look like a damn slob” and Damian says “you look hot in jeans and hoodies, you don’t need to change a thing”, Ally McBeal marathons (shame!), and on it goes . . .

Alright guys, now it’s your turn – tell me what you’re loving this week!

Aw, congrats to you two, and to being called “Mommy and Daddy!” I love reading about your family. (And agree that you don’t need to fuss about fashion–you look rockin’ in the clothes you post here!)

Gosh I totally feel this! My boyfriend of 5 years tells me I look the best with jeans and band tshirts both his and mine =) While that style of dress is totally in my comfort zone…I want to get “dressed up” too! It’s totally a shame when he is like “you look really cute today, I love your look!” It’s a Tshirt, cordoroys, and chucks…

Congrats on 5 years! What an incredible accomplishment. And buckwheat cereal sounds incredible too!

My love list: Seattle. I took a trip there this weekend. Also, my boyfriend, who I missed dearly (and do every day since we don’t live near each other)!
