The Weekend Send-Off

Mmmm, I miss that cotton candy hair. circa 2006

So there’s this meme on Tumblr (maybe other places too?) – “Flashback Fridays”. I’ve been doing a lot of flashback-ing of my own these last few days, because tomorrow, Damian and I will be celebrating five years of being together. Five years! It seems like such a long time (for both of us it’s our longest relationship) and simultaneously, so short (someday we’ll be celebrating 50, after all).

Anyways, I’ve been getting super nostalgic lately, digging through old photos, reminiscing our love story, and having these vivid dreams at night. Life is such a trip, and I’m so damn lucky to be along for this ride! So in honor of “Flashback Friday”, I wanted to share a few of my favorite photos from our very early days together . . .

Sid and Nancy; “Dead Rock Star” party, 2007.

Here’s to five – and fifty more. I LOVE YOU BABE!

~~~
Le Love List:
1. No-Nee
Waits just started saying “Mommy” last week. He always said “mama” before, and when he looked up at me and said “Mommy” for the first time, I straight-up got tears in my eyes. Damian was standing right there, and we both sort of began hooting and hollering and did a little family-style happy dance. So Waits thought that was just the neatest thing, so he said it again! Yay, more whooping! More dancing! Within a few minutes we had him saying “Daddy” (from “dada”), and it was like Dance Party USA up in this little rowhouse.
Well, all that positive reinforcement might have been a bit much. The “dogg-a” to “doggy” transition certainly works, but adding “ee” to the end of every word has become his new favorite game, and the results are not always so successful. Most notably, “no no” has morphed into “no-nee”. Which doesn’t make any sense, and nobody else understands. But can I just say . . . sweetest thing ever. I love it!
2. Sprouted, Dehydrated Buckwheat
I tend to go through food phases, and I am currently in the depths of a lurid love affair with buckwheat. I eat an enormous bowl of it every day and I can’t get enough! Sprouted, then dehydrated, served like cold cereal with cinnamon, stevia, and homemade almond milk, then – the clincher – topped with sliced bananas and an enormous scoop of peanut butter. That, my friends, is a micronutrient- and protein-packed breakfast bomb of DELICIOUS.
3. Absence Makes The Heart Grow Fonder
My Granny always used to tell me that, and it’s so true.
This week Damian went away for a short business trip. It was HARD to be on my own with Waits, and I was jealous that he was in SoCal soaking up 80º heat and staying in a posh hotel directly across the street from Native Foods (which I’m DYING to try!). But all that aside, damn I missed him and damn, it’s good to have him back.
Also! Brown corduroy baby blazers, when I say “I think I want to start fixing myself up again” and Damian says “I totally prefer you without makeup . . . I like that I could just LICK your face at any given time.” HA!, the perfect pair of jeans, when I say “I need to try and dress up more, I look like a damn slob” and Damian says “you look hot in jeans and hoodies, you don’t need to change a thing”, Ally McBeal marathons (shame!), and on it goes . . .
~~~

Alright guys, now it’s your turn – tell me what you’re loving this week!

My darlings, this happy little post will stay at the top of the page all weekend, so stop by any time to leave your Love List, ask a question, or offer some feedback! Or if you’re new, please introduce yourself and say ‘Oi!’! This is your community, so get involved!

Have a wonderful weekend, dearies! And how about one more for the road – taken as we waited for our cab to pick us up for our wedding adventure!

  • http://moreturmeric.blogspot.com/ Kelsey

    I love sprouted buckwheat cereal! And Native Foods (they are opening one in Portland)!

  • Moira

    No shame here. I’m on the third season of Ally McBeal. My stats prof told us its best to datacrunch while watching trashy TV. I wouldn’t say that Ally McBeal is total trash, but I certainly feel justified for watching it all the time.

    Congrats on your five years!!

    le lovin my productivity, i’m slow but at least i’m movin. le lovin a fantastic halloween with wonderful friends who flew out from cali and boston. <3 and le lovin the return of beautiful fall weather after our crazy day of cold and snow. what else? oh and it's FRIDAY! whew.

  • http://thevegetablecentrickitchen.com/ Rande McDaniel

    Such lovely pictures, you’re a beautiful couple! I’m also in love with “buckwheat crunchies” (as I call them), they’re delicious on salad like croutons!

  • Rachel Fesperman

    Congrats on 5 years! :) I have a rabbit named Buckwheat who is brown and fluffy which brings me to my love list:

    -nutritional yeast flakes (ALWAYS)
    -my favorite grass green hoodie I’ve had since highschool
    -the weekly walk to the farmer’s market on saturday morning with my rockin’ room mate

  • Anonymous

    Aww that is so sweet! You guys are adorable :)

    1. Beginning my journey through network chiropractic. It is already helping me and I can’t wait to continue it.

    2. Roseanne marathons! Totally my guilty pleasure when I am not feeling well and just need a laugh.

    And most importantly…

    3. OCCUPY OAKLAND! Oh my gosh, being out in the streets with 20,000 people, old and young, teachers and preachers, marching downtown to shut the port of Oakland down and fighting for a better world? My heart was filled with such gratitude and joy!

  • http://simplybeme.com Jenny @ Simply Be…me

    Kids are just so darn cute! Our little guy has started getting very excited when one of us enters a room and then says “Uh! A mommy/daddy/nanny” The addition of “a” in front of it is too much sometimes :) He also asks “What dood?” when he wants to know what we are doing. Let the heart melting begin.

    My love list:
    1. My mom is here and my house has never been so clean! I keep joking that it looks like we got new appliances because they are so shiny.
    2. When my husband Andrew says things like “I love Lincoln so much that I can hardly handle it.” Another heart melter,
    3. Family group hugs. This results in jumping up and down and an inevitable giggle fest.
    4. And in keeping with the TV guilty pleasures theme, Dawson’s Creek.
    5. Apple juice making! Friends of ours own an orchard and it’s time for their annual apply juice making party. They have a huge machine that pulverizes the apples – it’s going to get sticky!

    Happy weekend to you and your family!

  • http://twitter.com/alina_hall Alina S

    Ooh, never tried them on salad, I’ll have to give that a go. =)

  • http://bonzaiaphrodite.com/ Sayward Rebhal

    Aw, that’s a great name for a bun-bun.

    I’m currently wearing my favorite grey hoodie which I stole from Damian *before* we started dating. So, not quite since high school, but very old nonetheless. Aren’t the rattiest oldest ones always the bestest ones? ;-)

  • http://bonzaiaphrodite.com/ Sayward Rebhal

    I love Roseanne! I grew up watching that show and I still love it. Did you read that amazing interview with her a few months back? Good lord it was profound . . . let me go find it . . .

    Here it is! A long read but SO worth it – http://nymag.com/arts/tv/upfronts/2011/roseanne-barr-2011-5/

    Love list:

    x) I’m so happy for you! congrats, and may you live to celebrate your 100 aniv. near the guy you love.

    x) Damian learned to stand. Well, to stay on a standing position, without having to grab on to anything.

    Aly bought him this http://niniwalker.es/www/en/ and it rocks! The boy loves it, too.

    x) I’m behind almost 1500 words on nanowrimo, but I’m still doing better than last year. I’m confident I can do well… I don’t know about finishing yet, as it is still a loooong way to the ending line, but…

    x) I shoul’ve realized this before, but I found out that from my house to my office there is only around 6k. And due to the long time I have to wait for a bus on the mornings, it turns out I make less time if I run to work than if I take a bus. Forget riding your bike to work, running is where the fun is at. I’ve been running to work every morning 2 days now and I love it. I was having trouble finding time to exercise anyways, and since we have showers on the office, it makes sense to use them.

    x) Losing weight. We are doing another round of “Biggest loser” on the office, (xtreme version, since this time of the year you pig out pretty much every 2 weeks… a special tamal on “Hannal Pixan” (the Mayan holiday for “day of the dead”) super tasty, super full of calories. Then thanksgiving (which I only celebrate because we work for an american company and because my brother’s fiancee is american so we celebrate with her family, then the xmas parties, the xmas dinner, all the food and alcohol on new year’s eve and then the rosca de reyes. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosca_de_reyes

    x) Classes start on Monday, and I selected only classes I am looking forward to, so I’m super stoked!

    gee… no wonder I am behind on nanowrimo… I can’t help but waste my verbosity on this type of comments. I don’t even know if anyone reads em, but I still enjoy writing these love lists.

  • Chelibw

    I love sprouted dehydrated buckwheat (aka buckwheaties)! Try this: after your buckwheat has sprouted, mix together a little coconut oil, some raw honey (or agave) and a pinch of cinnamon. Coat the buckwheat and dehydrate on the teflex sheet for a bit, then transfer to the mesh sheet, to finish dehydrating. It’s like sweet and crunchy buckwheat granola!

    Le love:

    Congrats!!

    Love:

    1. My cute fiend sweet prince – Rowan – who passed early last year at a mere 20 years of age. I have *just* finished the year of school and been able to pause and reflect, and realise I miss him so. In her skill of timing, a dear friend sent me a link to a YouTube link to a video that my darling’s mother uploaded to her song that she wrote (she’s a musician) when he was a boy, teemed with various photos.
    It’s a lot to take in, and seeing myself in some of the photos with him is a bit weird, but I’m eternally blessed to know my one in a million and happy to stop and appreciate those gone.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZB6zWK2HZ98

    And that’s everything I love this week.
