Gift Bag Giveaway For Fair Trade Month! – CLOSED

Did you know that October is officially Fair Trade Month? Until recently, I didn’t either! But a few weeks back I was contacted by the awesome folks at Fair Trade USA, and asked to participate in an educational outreach program. And also, there was coffee and chocolate involved.

Seriously though, this is one issue I can wholeheartedly get behind. Anyone who reads Bonzai Aphrodite on the regular, knows that food politics is a passion of mine. Most often I write about veganism and environmentalism – I’ll be the first to admit that I don’t always emphasize the human part of the equation. Which is why I’m so happy to have that opportunity now!

This short video sums up the ethos of Fair Trade; please take a few moments to watch it!




Pretty amazing, right? So, do you want to win a bag full of awesome Fair Trade goodies, like coffee, tea, chocolates, and more? (totally vegan) All you have to do is help spread the word about the importance of Fair Trade! To enter, simply:

1. Go “like” Fair Trade on Facebook and make sure to check out the new mobile app for iPhone and Android. This is a super handy tool!

2. Tweet the following – “I’m helping to raise awareness about Fair Trade practices! Learn more at http://fairtradeusa.org/ and http://bonzaiaphrodite.com/2011/10/gift-bag-giveaway-for-fair-trade-month/”

3. Set the following as your Facebook status – “I’m helping to raise awareness about the importance of Fair Trade practices! Please take a moment to learn more at http://fairtradeusa.org/ and http://bonzaiaphrodite.com/2011/10/gift-bag-giveaway-for-fair-trade-month/”

4. Do the same on your blog, tumblr, or any other way of getting the word out!

Come back here and add one comment for each option, with a maximum entry limit of four per person.

    Not sure I dig the patronization of “hand-outs” (I guess I agree with the literal but not implicit implications of “not doing charity”)… but I do support their work and did like them on bookface. Also I really like Susanna’s idea of bringing it up face-to-face–still one of the most productive ways of connecting with people, in my experience.

    Feminist blog tigerbeatdown did an interesting take on Fair trade– and it was mentioned that Fair Trade certifications usually regulate overseas material production but not necessarily domestic product-production (um, am I saying this right)?–basically this can encourage sweatshop-like-issues in the USA, as is evident with hershey’s products. Anyway, here is the article, nice to see two of my favorite blogs talking about a similar topic!

    I’m actually working on a blog post right now for later this week, specifically about Green Mountain Fair Trade coffee. I received a couple sample bags to try out from bzzagent.com.
