The Weekend Send-Off

Promo cards for the weekend, because MY BOOK IS COMING OUT SOON OMG IT’S REAL!!!

It’s here! It’s here! Oi my god, it’s finally time for Vida Vegan Con!!!

That’s right, the world’s first ever vegan bloggers conference is this weekend, right here in Portland Oregon, and it is going to be AMAZING! Already, 100s of bloggers have descended on the city. My Twitter feed is a fast and steady flow of excitement, chatter, camaraderie, Portland iconography, and of course, tons of food pics! It’s so fun to see all these enthusiastic folks storming the city, tweeting about all my favorite haunts and truly enjoying all that Portland has to offer. Makes me appreciate this place more, and mostly makes me SO HAPPY to be a part of such an awesome, energetic, and life-loving community. YAY VEGAN BLOGGERS!

I can’t wait to tell you all about the merriment, next week! In the mean time . . .

Le Love List

1. VIDA VEGAN CON!    Obvi. See above. Also, because I am facing my biggest fear, and sitting on a panel and speaking in front of people, and that is a monumental step in the direction of seizing my life for my own. And I’m gonna kill it – whether I freeze up or whether I’m eloquence embodied – I’m gonna kill it because I’m gonna DO IT. And that’s going to be amazing.

2. The bonzai Book Club!    Have you joined the discussion yet? What are you waiting for?! I’m having such a great time talking and thinking with all you incredible, intelligent folks. Love it. JOIN IN!

3. ^^ Those two. ^^    Need I say more? Don’t think so. Love those guys . . .

Also! Summer food, sunny nights, mini zinnias, my neighbor handing me enormous cucumbers over the fence, movies instead of working, peanut butter, almond butter, grunge fashion, girl’s night out, outdoor music, The Weepies, practicing for #2, beer in the bath, kicking coffee, did I mention peanut butter? I’ll stop now . . .

~~~
Alright guys, now it’s your turn – tell me what you’re loving this week!
My darlings, this happy little post will stay at the top of the page all weekend, so stop by any time to leave your Love List, ask a question, or offer some feedback! Or if you’re new, please introduce yourself and say ‘Oi!’! This is your community, so get involved!
Have a FANTASTIC weekend!
    2. veggie-bbq
    3. sun
    4. writing a short story
    5. meditating again
    6. raw vegan selfmade cashew cream cheese
    7. stationary
    8. my loved ones, of course
  • RK
    Ahh! You can’t kick coffee! You were the my main rational behind it. “If Sayward drinks it, I’m good”! LOL and #2 as in baby?! That last little paragraph was so loaded without any explanation…love it!
    1. I’m back in school. I left when I had baby #2 and am determined to finish.
    2. Back to school clothes shopping. Found some radical stuff.
    3. Being creative with kids lunches and bring home empty lunch boxes. YES!
    Happy weekend to all!
    Apples and Peaches coming in to season! (I love NY during apple time.) The giant butter sculpture at the New York State Fair. (I know it’s totally frivolous, but I can’t help it) Going for super long walks with Ryan every day after work. Fresh leeks from our CSA. Sudoku before bed. And finally – peanut butter. You’ve got it right on that one!
    P.S. My first thought was the same as RK’s… #2 as in baby 2?! (That thought was quickly followed by “OhMyGoshIHopeSoBecauseWaitsIsSoCute!”
    LOVE the cards! I do some work as a doula and I am loving your book coming out.
    1. apple orchard this weekend (Iowa)
    2. plan to make vegan tamales with the whole fam.
    3. a barefoot woman practicing a healing ritual of making 1000 cranes told me her story and handed me one – thankful.
    happy weekend!
    Oh my goodness ‘the weepies’ are so gorgeous. Thanks for introducing me! Have a lovely time at VidaVCon, so jealous.
    Oh and I’m so going to buy a copy of the book when it’s released…who cares that I’m 21, not in a relationship and definitely not considering having kids for quite some time!
    Practicing for #2???
  • http://simplybeme.com Jenny @ Simply Be…me
    sunny skies, cool breezes from the river, snuggles with my Doozer, the fact that my son has entered the “I don’t want to sit in the stroller, I’d rather walk home” phase, neighbourly visits, fresh veggies from the garden, coffee, bubbly water, and a baby shower for our friend’s little girl they just adopted (they’ve waited so long and she is finally here!)
    Have fun this weekend!
    Ooh I cannot wait for your book!
    I am loving…
    1. August being a three-paycheck month! My husband and I need some extra stuff (like glasses + new shoes) and this extra paycheck allows us to get it done!
    2. Cinnamon almonds. What an amazing treat.
    3. Driving up to Muir Woods tomorrow. Because nothing makes me happier than spending my weekend under the redwood elders :)
  • Rebecca
    You do realize that “practicing for #2″ sounds like…err…
    1. Finally being able to stand up after throwing my back out (yes, right before an out-of-town friend was making her way to my place for dinner…man!) It has been over 2 weeks now and I am still in pain..but finally upright and off meds!
    2. Asking the kids I babysit for what their favorite part of school was and always having their response being “snack” (well, I guess that is not a “love”—more of a commentary on our education system, but still humorous nonetheless)
    3. No more cable! I grew up in a household with a tv-addict of a dad (and a mother who prided herself on never watching any..go figure!) Anyways, as much as I hate TV for youngsters (no TV “babysitter” for the kids I nanny!), I can never seem to resist the temptation of the boob tube. So, I cut the cord! Internet and movies are still allowed, but hoping to wean myself as much as I can.
    I had the same ‘I hope so’ thought, hehe. The world definitely needs more bonzai babies… I’m still hoping my daughter will magically run into mr waits someday and fall madly in love, lol
  • Jenn
    Love the pool picture, adorable! I’ve been spending a LOT of time in the pool lately too, and I’m wondering wht you do to protect your hair from the chlorine? I put warm olive oil on mine before I go, which works pretty well, but that’s almost impossible to wash out with bicarb/vinegar… any tips?
    1) DearPhotograph.com. So beautiful.
    2)The Decemberist’s album “The King is Dead.” I am obsessed, and I wasn’t even a fan before.
    3) A beautiful hike with my almost-four-year-old this past Wednesday. One of those days that just turns out to be magical, and all I had to put in was a short drive and a couple peanut butter sandwiches.
    Practicing for number 2 huh?! So exciting! I thought going from 1-2 was easier than going from 0-1. Yay!
  • Kory Rigler
    I have a new love! Spirulina + Strawberries, thanks so much for the recommendation!
  • Moiramia
    <3 the weepies!
    1. I'm happy that the government took great precaution for this hurricane and urging folks to be prepared.
    2. We still have power after the tropical storm/hurricane!
    3. A restful summer. I slept a lot! and now I'm all jazzed up about the start of a busy school year.
  • mandie
    I’m so excited for your book!!
    1. We were magically spared by Irene. Awful floods and no power all around us (we’re in upstate NY) but my house and my parent’s farm haven’t had any tree damage or even lost power. Neighbors and friends not so lucky…
    2. My victory over squash bugs!!
    3. Mother Earth News. Rediscovered the magazines I had bought (and never read?! How?!) and subscribed, bought some special editions.
    4. My pregnant best friend on a cruise to the Bahamas didn’t get caught up in the hurricane. Not the vacation they had exactly planned on, but they’re all ok!
  • Kelly
    I was just going to say this: The world needs more Bonzai Babies. They will make the future a better place. I’m sure of it! :o)
  • Kelly
    1. Ben Harper. Just saw him again for the umpteenth time last night and the experience never stops being magical. I love him. I want to marry him.
    2. Summer in Seattle…FINALLY. I’ve enjoyed lots of lazy days in my backyard with a book followed up by cooking adventures. That’s all I really need.
    3. Reigniting my yoga practice. It took a weekend retreat in Vancouver to do it, but I’m so glad. It’s coming back slowly.
    *Honorary mention: More Bonzai babies!! People like you and Damian absolutely should be procreating to make this world a better place!
    1. Having a blast at the Warrior Dash on Saturday! Strangely enough, both of my injured body parts – a knee and a rotator cuff – feel better than before the dash.
    2. Camping with my family and some friends the night before the dash, and teaching Nina how to roast marshmallows. =)
    3. Soaking in my in-laws’ hot tub yesterday afternoon. Bliss.
    Question for you: Where do you get your bookclub questions – things you think up, or from another source?
    LOVE LIST:
    1. Seattle. Hello, I love you. Specifically, the gay district (Capitol Hill) and being called ‘Sugar Booger’.
    2. ‘Sugar Booger’ deserves it’s own love line.
    3. How soft and happy my hair feels in Seattle.
    how I do love to travel!
    The *only* reason I’m kicking it is because I’m breastfeeding and I can’t control my intake. Just not comfortable with that quantity of caffeine in my milk-makers, you know? But if I weren’t nursing . . . sigh!
  • http://bonzaiaphrodite.com/ Sayward Rebhal
    AWWWWWWW!
  • http://bonzaiaphrodite.com/ Sayward Rebhal
    Yes, I just discovered them and they are so good! Glad you like. =)
    Aw, <3 Muir Woods.
  • http://bonzaiaphrodite.com/ Sayward Rebhal
    Um . . . er . . . protect?
    Haha, I have to laugh at myself. I don’t do anything!
  • http://bonzaiaphrodite.com/ Sayward Rebhal
    Ooh yay, you’re welcome!
  • http://bonzaiaphrodite.com/ Sayward Rebhal
    That is seriously comforting to hear, thanks.
  • http://bonzaiaphrodite.com/ Sayward Rebhal
    I just make them up! Do you think they’re okay?
  • http://windycityvegan.wordpress.com Monika {windycityvegan}
    Am I the only one who immediately thinks of Reality Bites when I hear Sugar Booger?
  • RK
    Well….that makes me feel *so* much betta! I nursed my son until he was almost 2. Yeah for breastfeeding!!!
  • Jen
    Just ordered this book!!
