A Mid-Summer Interlude

July 19th, 2011 - filed under: Furthermore » Feedback

Yesterday I took Waits swimming for the very first time. After his initial skepticism (standing on the top step hollering “no no no!”), he warmed up to it and had fun. Like, so much fun.

Subsequently, I didn’t get much writing done. And I’m totally okay with that.

The truth is, I just spent a maddening few months working like a maniac, and not doing things like swimming and park play and library singalongs. Now it’s summer (sort of, damn you Portland!) and all I want to do these days is to play with my kid.

So, my friends, that’s what I’m going to do.

I’m taking a week to myself. I know you’ll understand, and thank you so much for that. I’m going to use nap times to finally (!!!) get all caught up on emails and comments. And I’m going to use after-baby-goes-to-bed time for catching up on all my cleaning (YEESH!). But when my boy is awake, bring on the fun times . . .

I’ll be back on Friday with a send-off, then begin normal posting again on Monday. Have a great week guys!

    oh that is so cute
    enjoy
although posting a comment sorta defeats the purpose… so sorry
but have fun w your waits

Glad Waits enjoyed the swim! It’s 95 degrees here in Southern Minnesota, so water play is necessary if we are even brave enough to be outside. I have finals this week, then four weeks of time off to be a momma and housekeeper, and I am *so* ready for that. Have a fun week :)

The only way this is acceptable is if dozens of pictures are taken and extra snuggles are given.

    Permission granted.

I love your style, that you are just holding him with no stupid floaties or anything. Hands-on mom!

    This ‘summer’ is so disappointing!

Playing outside with my kids, getting a little too much sun on my shoulders, getting filthy feet and staggering back home exhausted, is one of the greatest joys of my life. Enjoy your time off. You’ll miss these moments some day :)

We all need a break sometimes! Enjoy it, and have fun with your family. I will be reading through all your archived posts to keep me inspired :-)

Yes definitely enjoy some time with your little one. They grow up so darn fast and then you wonder where the time went.

I am from SW MN and don’t even want to be outside because of the heat and high humidity. We broke records yesterday. So for now it is inside where I want to be. But last week when I was at the hospital with my son for his surgery my daughter and I enjoyed supper alfresco at a nearby restaurant. We did enjoy that as the weather was half decent then.

“housework” and “week off” … you mean together?!?! Feel free to have a whole week to play!

  • Sam

Enjoy your week off! :) You so deserve it! I’m busier than I’ve ever been right now, so I’m looking forward to a few days or a week of break hopefully within the next month as well. Ohio is experiencing this heat wave of 100+ degrees, 100% humidity, ack! But it’s summer so I must adore it :)

As a mom who’s toddler also just discovered the bliss of a pool I’m TOTALLY with you on this one :) My munchkin and I take swim lessons so we spend a lot of “practice” time in the pool and she’s learning how to go under. It’s so good because not only is it fun, but we’re setting up for later in life to enjoy physical play. So as if you needed more incentive to take some time off and swim in the pool, just think of the rewards you’ll reap when Waits voluntarily keeps himself active and healthy through things like swimming and bike riding. Go Momma Go!
