Oh, vegan cheese. Vegan cheese! How bad you used to be . . . and now, how very far you’ve come!

It feels like every year vegan cheese just gets better and better, with more innovation, more creativity, and more variety. But despite the epic advancements made in meltiness, stretchiness, and salty savory deliciousness, there’s still one thing that’s been sorely missing from the vegan cheese scene.

Because aside from high-priced or homemade cultured nut cheeses, we’ve pretty much had to live without a cheese that could be eaten cold, straight from the package. Like, a fruit or crackers cheese. Like . . . something sharp and creamy to eat with baguette. Or a tangy provolone to pair with crisp, sweet apples. Simple. Easy.

You know what I’m talking about. That delightful experience of slicing cheese straight from the block, bit by bit . . . best when done with friends. And wine. I mean, amiright??

And that’s what’s been missing from our vegan cheese scene! Well, until now.

(There is some wind noise going on here, and I apologize for that. I’m still getting the hang of this whole video thing, and there’s a learning curve. I hope you enjoy it despite the background wind!)

Quick video recap –> THIS STUFF IS FANTASTIC!

There are four flavors in the new line: American, Provolone, Mozzarella, and Garden Herb. And honestly? *Creamy* was the word of the day when we tasted these cheeses. Like, we all just couldn’t believe how amazingly fantastic the texture was! I’ve never tasted a vegan cheese that was so delicious and delightful to eat without heating.

But also, in case you’re wondering how it melts . . .

follow your heart vegan cheese lasagna

KAPOW!

Vegan 4-cheese lasagna. Waits ate 2 giant platefuls of this. Big hit, haha. Big hit.

So the new line of Follow Your Heart vegan cheeses should be hitting the shelves of Whole Foods and health food stores nation-wide, like now. Keep an eye out for this stuff!

OH AND ALSO! The awesome folks at Follow Your Heart are giving away THE ENTIRE LINE OF CHEESES to one lucky Bonzai reader! All you have to do to enter is answer this question in the comments below:

What are you dying to make with this new vegan cheese???

And as always, your friendly reminder – I think “like-gating” / “fan-gating” is weird and insincere, and I’ll never make you guys do it.

That being said, the truth is that social media stats are pretty important these days, in blogging as well as in business. So no, I’m not going to require you to “like” me all over the Internet just to enter this giveaway. BUT, if you do like my blog and enjoy the work I do here, then liking my Facebook page, or following me on Instagram or on Twitter, or subscribing to my Youtube channel, is a great, easy way to help me out. Those numbers really do count for something.

But no coercion. ALL you have to do to enter to win this WHOLE line of vegan cheese, is just leave a comment here, on this post, answering that question above. That’s it!

This giveaway will end on Saturday 25 April at midnight PST. I’ll contact the winner the next day.

Congratulations to Linda Fritz-Murphy, who said:

“First, cubed with crackers and vegan red wine, on the patio, with a friend. Then, creative quesadilla time – mushrooms, greens, cranberries and provolone on a whole wheat tortilla shell…thanks for this opportunity!”

Yay, look for an email from me!

  • veganinbrighton

Holy wow! That lasagne! I imagine FYH won’t want to wait three weeks to send out the cheeses so I won’t enter but I just wanted to say yay for not doing any like-gating (hate!!) and yay for awesome vegan cheeses!

  • Melissa M

I think I would have to make some mac and cheese with these. SO many ways to make vegan mac and cheese, but so few are melty and satisfying. This looks like I might finally get that.

  • ellie

OmNomNom! Ummm…. pizza, maybe beer cheese?, fondue? I don’t know but it will all make this lactose intolerant belly very happy :)

  • http://www.cadryskitchen.com/ Cadry

Like you said, an easy cheese and crackers kind of experience is much appreciated. So when I get the chance, I’ll be pairing this FYH cheese with water crackers and pickles.

  • Nat

Thank you for this awesome review! Also just wanted to say thank you for keeping up with your blog after so many years! I can’t tell you how many times I go back to older posts and re read them! I have a 4 year old boy and I get so many great ideas for feeding him healthy! Thank you :)

  • Kelsey

    Grilled cheese, of course!

  • Kate

My best friend, a new but amazingly committed vegan, would surely make grilled cheese.

  • Sarah Olson

    A vegan cheeseburger sounds fabulous!

  • Adrienne

If, as you say, it is edible as a chunk of cheese, then I would put it on a cracker.

  • Julie

Those cheeses look amazing for a vegan grilled cheese or panini!

  • faye

I would want to make mac & cheese or a cheesy pasta bake! DELISH! :)

  • Lindsey

I want to make your 4 cheese lasagna NOW!!!!! I hope I win :)

  • Gillian Moynihan

Uh, other than ALL THE THINGS????!?!?! Seeing how well it melted on your lasagna I’d really like to try welsh rarebit (basically fancy cheese sauce on toast). I love me some nutritional yeast, but it just doesn’t work in that form.

  • JW

This is sort of boring, but probably the first thing I’d try it out on is some nachos. Love me some nachos!

  • Jennifer

I would love to make a cauliflower crust calzone with this!

  • Kathleen Dupré

    Pizzaaaaaa!

  • Lisa

I would definitely start by snacking on it with some fruit and crackers, then make a big pan of veggie lasagna!

ps – the fact that you don’t require like-gating is one of the reasons I already “like” you around social media. :)

  • Stacey Sarber

CHEESEY VEGGIE BURGER. fo sho :)

  • Patty

Thank you, for offering this, Sayward! It is so exciting for us to now have a, you can just slice a piece straight off the block and eat it style, vegan cheese!! Well, I have been wanting to try the Garden Herb cubed and on a pretty tray with grapes, ever since I first heard it was coming out! Also, I’d like to use the line in a lasagna, like you did! Grilled cheese…yum! Mac and cheese…yum! Just sliced up with baguettes and apples….pretty and yum!

  • Emerina

Pizza, always pizza. Although I love other foods like curries (a current fave), cheese is always best on a pizza, oh and grilled cheese, another classic!

  • Meg Travis-Carr

MMMMMmmmmm… Warm, toasted Bruschetta with FYH’s Mozzerella, fresh tomatos, basil, kalamata olives, and some olive oil and pepper… BAM, that’s my jam…. Plus friends and wine, of course! :D

  • Annie

I just got the provolone slices – so good! I’m dying to make a veggie grinder styled after the one from Eegee’s (my fave Tucson deli)!!

  • Linda Fritz-Murphy

First, cubed with crackers and vegan red wine, on the patio, with a friend. Then, creative quesadilla time – mushrooms, greens, cranberries and provolone on a whole wheat tortilla shell…thanks for this opportunity!

  • Krista

Being a vegan mama with happy memories of tomato soup and grilled cheese as well as cheese and crackers with tuna fish growing up, I would love to try the cheese in these kind of “low brow” comfort food ways. Mmmmmmm
    Also it would be cool
To share those food memories with my daughter, a vegan since conception (she’s almost two!).

  • Christie Howk

There are so many things I’d like to make, it’s hard to choose just one. The mozzarella would be yummy on a pesto, caprese panini. Vegan mac and cheese, pizza, grilled cheese…so many possibilities. I am eager to try these out. I have yet to find a vegan cheese I like. Thanks!

  • Will

Lasagne for sure to start with!

  • rebecca f.

Pizza! I love a good veggie pizza but sometimes I miss a gooey, melty slice of cheese pizza.

  • Cristinalcherry

Oh my. I’m excited about this cheese! I want to make my used-to-be favorite meal, my mother’s enchiladas. a secret family recipe which never quite hits the mark with the vegan cheeses we’ve tried so far! can’t wait. :)

  • bloodlesscoup

My favorite treat is cheese with apple slices, so I’d love to try it that way!

  • Nicole Lee-Sye

As boring as this might sound cheese toast!!!!!

  • JulieTobin

I am already hooked on the Provolone slices with whole foods woven wheat crackers – it’s like my vegan cheese and cracker dreams have finally come true!!! =) for what I’m dying to make 1st – a good old fashioned gooey grilled cheese with some crusty bread, yum.

  • stephanie

Ooooo….the possiblibities.. Macaroni and cheese has been on my mind. Grilled cheese to eat along with my veggie soup. Cheese sticks. Totally craving comfort food

  • rebecca

eek!! So excited to see those snack cheeses. I want to buy them in secret and sneak them in my kids’ lunchboxes…they’d be SO excited to have something like string cheese :) I would want to try the new flavors raw…maybe chopped up in a salad or on crackers. The only cheese we’ve ever liked cold is a homemade one, so this makes me really happy–I can’t wait to try!

  • Dionne

OMG!!! I’m so excited to try all of them. First thing I would make is a jalapeno and pineapple pizza with LOTS of mozzarella.

  • Anne

    One word: pizza

  • Lisa B.

Okay, can I just say how cute Waits is in the beginning of that video? I’ve never seen a kiddo look so serious about vegan cheese. Adorable!

Alright, onto the cheese *cracks knuckles*. The things I’d do with some good ol’ vegan cheese! Given my Italian roots, I’d love to take Follow Your Heart’s mozzarella and make Melanzane alla Parmigiana (eggplant parmesan), topping if off with some homemade walnut parmesan. That with a nice glass of wine…oof! Be still my heart!

  • Rebecca S.

My son longs for cheese that stretches and melts like the real thing. I would make him the pizza he has been dreaming of.

  • http://headwisewoman.blogspot.com/ Steph P

Sayward, I really dig your whole vibe. <3 As for the cheese, the question is more like, how *wouldn't* I eat it? I'd love a good cold vegan cheese with apples, sliced on a veggie sammy, and of course, melty and gooey on pizza.

  • Anna Patricia

    Grilled cheese sandwiches!

  • Sarah Sylvester

    Taco casserole!

  • Susie

Can’t wait to try these – I’ll have to check WF soon! Looks like it’d be great on pizza.

  • Julie

Cheese and crackers. I would love to have some plain ol’ cheese and crackers. That just sounds wonderful.

  • Sarah C.

The standard test for me is a simple grilled cheese sandwich – maybe a slice of tomato, maybe a few leaves of basil, but otherwise just a showcase for the cheese itself.

  • Heather

FINALLY after 15 years I can eat cubed cheese!!!! <3 this stuff is mind blowing!

  • Amy Katz

    Lasagna and enchiladas!

  • wendy

oh enchiladas here we come! can’t wait to dig right on in!

  • Shannon Johnson

a simple cheese sandwich, that would be lovely :)

  • Natalie

I would love to make a nice grilled cheese and tomato sandwich with these cheeses. A good vegan American cheese is what the world has been waiting for.

  • vegyogini

I’m dying to recreate the sandwiches they had at Expo! Thanks for the giveaway, can’t wait to have these in my fridge!

  • Ferrell Alexander

    Lasagna sounds perfect!
