Pictures Of Things + Le Love List

July 17th, 2014 - filed under: Furthermore » Feedback

Hello, happy Friday! So firstly, I want to say thank you to everyone who left a sweet or supportive note on last week’s “Pictures Of Things” post. I was having a rough time, and your words of kindness mean more to me than you know. Thank you so much for that.

This week, things are looking up. And this week I’ve tried to be especially mindful of all the treats and treasures around me, all the time. Which is sort of the point of these posts, and one of the reasons I’m enjoying this new series here on the blog. Because it forces me to pay attention to the world around me. Constantly. Looking for pretty pictures to capture, well, it keeps me very present!

So, without further ado, here’s a bit of Happy that I’ve captured around me this week:

driving kid

“I’m the driver, mama! You sit in the passenger seat, you’re the kid. I’m the mom.”

whiskey barrel
Our first barrel! This one housed whiskey once upon a time, and now we can hardly wait to cut it in half. Jeremy and I have been dreaming and scheming of all the things we could plant in our two impending half-barrels. It’s going to have to be something really special . . .

incredible salad and t rex
This amazing salad (and T-Rex!)

summer watermelon kid
Summer watermelon face.

on top of a mountain in santa barbara
ADVENTURES >>> Driving up, up, up, until you’re so high you feel like you’re driving in the sky itself . . .

unpaved road
And then down, down on dusty broken roads, for what seems like ages, into the middle of nowhere . . .

boy on hike
Because you’re hunting . . .

santa barbara hot springs
For some place . . . magical.

~~~
And now, one of the easiest things that we can ALL do to make the world a little bit of a better place: Le Love List!
Deep cleaning my kitchen. Scouring the inside of my fridge. Ahhhhh. // My dahlias (hybrid, grown from seed instead of bulb) are finally beginning to bloom. I’ve been waiting for them! // Sex-positive people. Listening to the Savage Love podcast non-stop (FYI, that is graphic and explicit, NSFW, NSFkids) while I clean and putter around my house. // That incredible impromptu dinner picnic + magical soak in the natural hot springs, with my two very most favorite humans (as pictured up there ^^^). That was a really good one. // Every few months I’m surprised by a bit of money arriving in the mail. I’m surprised every. single. time. And I get to go “Oh yeah, I wrote a book and people actually buy it!” Good feeling. // Fermenting ALL THE THINGS. // And oh yeah, label makers are pretty neat-o. // Breaking 2000 followers on Instagram. It’s my favorite social media platform by far, and man do I suck at social media! Oi. But truly, I love Instagram and would love it if you joined me there. // Having dinner with my godparents and their children, and my child, and their children’s partners, all of us together is so rare and SO precious. // Last week I was gutted over a smoking engine and expensive, unexpected car repairs. And today, on his day off, all day, Jeremy was working under my car, doing things I don’t quite understand. And he somehow saved me over $600. And . . . I just . . . I don’t . . . HE is at the top of my gratitude list this week. This week and every other, I am so thankful for the winding path that led me to Jeremy. ♥ ♥ ♥
Alright guys, now it’s your turn! I hope you’ll leave your own little Love List in the comments below, and let us all know what’s making you smile these days.
Happy weekend!
    Glad that things are looking better. That Jeremy sounds more and more like a keeper every time. ;) I’m glad you found joy this week!
    Sounds like a truly wonderful week! I’m so happy to hear that you didn’t let that bad news drag you down. Have a lovely weekend!
    So happy to hear that things are looking up. The “spunk” is back in your voice this week. I just love seeing your pictures. Your surroundings are so different from here in TN, and for a moment, they transport me to another place. Some day, I’m going to have to get back out there to explore the natural beauty. And Waits… oh my, what a character. His little face just makes me smile. I can’t wait to see what you do with that gorgeous barrel.
    My love list this week would include: Having my hubby back home after a short trip away. I swear Charlotte is a different child when she gets her “daddy play time”. Positive changes in our work lives that we can’t even talk about yet. ;-) My garden is spitting out cucumbers and squash faster than I can use them, which is such a blessing! And my tomatoes are just starting to change color. (Eek! The anticipation is killing me.) My newly decorated front porch that just makes me happy every time I come home and see the bright blue pots and dark purple chairs. My zinnias that were just planted Sunday are already sprouting, too! Being surrounded by so much beauty on a daily basis. And my mom who is helping out so much around the house (and with Charlotte), and inspiring me to finally finish all the little projects I’ve been too overwhelmed to attempt. Life is really good.
    Yay for things looking up!! I too am fermenting all the things! Isn’t it so fun?? Have you tried broccoli stems? So yum!
    Short but sweet love list: my nursing toddler’s little hand always exploring and reaching for my nose, my mouth, my hand…aaaahhhhhh/new music/second hand cloth diapers arriving in the mail/my mom doing ALL my dishes/teaching yoga to children with Asperger’s syndrome/yummy beer.
  • Amanda
    I’m so glad you’re blogging again. Your lovely posts make me appreciate the loveliness in my own life more (and inspire me to keep up healthy eating habits and not cheat – as much).
    Aw, swimming in that natural spring looks so fun! And now I want watermelon.
    Let’s see:
    * Reading your review of Gena’s book yesterday, ordering it on Amazon, & and having it arrive this morning!! (And I didn’t even sign up for speedy shipping!!)
    * It’s Friday.
    * The mac & “cheese” pizza party that I’m having at my house tomorrow
    * Discovering kundalini yoga earlier this week!!
    * The vegan strawberry champagne cupcake I ate last night
    The hot springs dip looks absolutely magical! I’m loving this series, by the way. I’m too busy lately to keep up with Instagram (and a total curmudgeon about pretty much all other forms of social media), so I’m excited to see more of your pictures posted here.
    Right now, I’m loving: the crazy weather fluctuations in the U.P. – alternating hot, sunny days on the beach with cold, stormy days indoors that require burning the fireplace for 24 hours straight // taking a 1.5 mile out-and-back hike with Nina along the beach and barely noticing that it took us two hours to hike only three miles // devouring as many not law-related books, magazines, and podcasts as humanly possible these past few weeks // black squirrels // shopping for suits, which means shopping for new shoes! // during a pedicure: hearing Nina give very detailed instructions on how she wanted a TARDIS painted on her toenails // letting Nina teach me how to play cribbage // teaching her how to play Who’s the Ass and double-sol // baby loons
    Thanks Erin! Yes, I’m definitely looking up from last week – and I hope you found some joy this week as well. =)
    Thanks Kris! Hope you have a wonderful weekend as well!
    Lindsay, that’s one of the reasons I like visiting your blog as well! Such different climate and surroundings – I love to see different parts of the country . . . and especially how people garden in all those different parts of the country! =D
    Love your Love List, thank you so much for sharing! And yay for the zinnia love – they’re one of my very favorite flowers to grow, and I’ve had fresh cut stems in the house non-stop for a couple of weeks now. Growing flowers is so fun!
    Have a great weekend, lady!
    Woah, broccoli stems! You’re blowing my mind! =D
    I”m actually going to a fermentation festival tomorrow (Saturday) and I’m soooo excited! And of course, I’ll definitely be reporting back.
    Love your Love List. Hope you have an excellent weekend!
    Aww, thank you Amanda, I love hearing that!
  • http://bonzaiaphrodite.com/ Sayward Rebhal
    Yay, so glad you got the book. It’s SO good and so perfect for summer! And, um, mac and cheese pizza party???! Wow. You better post pics! =D
    You know, I always pictured you as a real Twitter type – but you’re not really on there are you? It’s funny how social media seems to break down, appealing to different personality types. And you’re totally a Twitter type in my mind (that’s a compliment, BTW – Twitter is where the brains go!)
    LOVE your Love List, as always, and love hearing what miss N is up to. She always seems to give me a little glimpse of what I’m in for in a few years. ;-D
  • http://windycityvegan.wordpress.com/ Monika {windycityvegan}
    I definitely take that as a compliment – and you know, I *was* a Twitter type until my love affair with Instagram started! (which was entirely because of you, Kittee, and some of her testers.) I was always blasting out articles and opinions, then my Twitter account was hacked a couple of times . . . and it wasn’t as fun anymore. With law school starting back up in a few weeks, though, my brain will be entirely overstuffed and I’m sure I’ll be oversharing in the ether again. It also makes me feel less sad about not having time to blog.
    I forgot to share my love list!!!
    1) My kiddo let me sleep until 9am. This may be the first time since she was BORN that I’ve slept that late (we just had her third birthday party. Ahem.)
    2) Summer vacation. The perks of being a teacher shine brighter than all of my school-time complaining this time of the year.
    3) My GARDEN. My insane tomato plant. We picked 35 orange cherry tomatoes on Thursday and another 20 today from one plant. 3 cucumbers ready today. 5 jalapenos. And all of this from a 8×3 cinder block garden! Carrots will be ready in just a few weeks, and the basil is blooming and the bumblebees are fat and buzzy in the lavender.
    Wow, gorgeous pics. Your son is completely adorable =) Sounds like you are having a better go at it. Happy to see you being happy!
