Hi guys! Happy Friday! It’s spring, the world is waking up, and everything seems to be snapping into motion. I’ve started school again and this quarter is already so much better than last quarter, by leaps and bounds. And I’m so excited! Today is Jeremy’s birthday, and today we’re heading out for a long weekend in . . . PORTLAND!!! Squee! One of my very favorite cities with one of my very favorite people, it’s going to be a blast!

I’ll be microblogging the entire time, so if you don’t want to miss any of the amazing eats and adventures, make sure you follow along on Instagram and/or Twitter.

Otherwise, of course I’ll be recapping the whole trip here on the blog, in the next few weeks. It’s going to be delicious!

~~~
And now, a quick and dirty Love List to kick off the weekend right! I’ll share mine, and I hope you’ll share some of yours. Drop your love in the comments below!
Number one, no doubt, is TEACHING! My biggest fear is public speaking, and this quarter I’ve had to meet it head on, because I am TAing. It was scary and horrible and stressful and sort of unbelievable (wait, you’re letting ME teach college biology? who in their right might approved that??!) (because I suffer from Impostor Syndrome, for reals, it’s a thing and I have it). But I did it, and actually, I did pretty good. And actually, it was pretty fun. And now, I think I might end up actually being a sort of awesome teacher. What?! // PORTLAND!!! Can’t wait, so excited, so many friends to see and so many things to eat. // The airline miles that made Portland a possibility at all, because otherwise there would have been no way. Very thankful for those! // Lazy nights on the couch with Jeremy. // Also, rallying for date nights out with Jeremy, those sure are good too. // So guys, I got a shout-out on Thursday’s episode of my all-time favorite podcast, Citizen Radio. No biggie. No big deal. Here at 45:23 (OMG!!!!!1) (DYING!!) (MADE MY YEAR!!!) // Cocktails and girl talk on a mom’s night out. // Long mellow mornings with Waits, without feeling rushed. So precious. // Vintage Pyrex, droooool! // Awesome opportunities from the most unexpected of places. // The class I’m taking on Science Writing, and the chills it gives me. Oh, my dream is crystalizing, and it is GOOD!
Alright, now it’s your turn! I hope you’ll leave your own little Love List in the comments below. I’d love to hear what’s making you smile these days!
    Short and sweet: spring break with my girls down to Florida! Taproot magazine: you have to check this magazine out! Vegetables! Spring! Walks with my sweety….
    This week was rough; a death in the family and a job loss. BUT. That does not mean there’s no room for a Love List!
    -My nieces. There’s so sweet and smart and CUTE. I adore them :)
    -Getting invited to be in a dinner theatre show without even having to audition!
    -Spring Cleaning! I feel soooo much better opening the windows, letting the sunlight in and getting the clutter out!
    -Dusting off an old/skill talent that I had forgotten :)
    -Joining two more Book Clubs!
    Happy birthday, Jeremy! I’m so happy to hear that this quarter is much better for you. I have no doubt that you are a fantastic teacher!
    girlllll… i totally have imposter syndrome, too. i’ve written about it on my blog a couple times. it’s crazy how real it is. and that there’s a name, and wiki page, and webpages, and papers written about it.
    my love list included roasted asparagus, the bbc sherlock series, and the hour long walks with my pup that i missed so much during the horrible winter that is just finally leaving.
    Happy birthday, Jeremy! Can’t wait to see (live vicariously) through your pics from Portland.
    Love list: Weather nice enough to warrant evening walks/jogs with the kiddo in the stroller, crazy mornings with the naked baby running wildly through the house, fresh berries, homemade almond and walnut butter, new vegan and raw vegan shirts, Eco Jarz lids (thanks to your suggestion), a hubby who does all of the laundry, a job that affords me time to read & money for fresh organic food, and great vegan blogs, of course!
    Mar and I are taking our first trip alone/together since Nina was born. Dude, that’s seven and a half years! We’re staying in Brooklyn Heights for four days, which will be all kinds of awesome. // Nina’s in a reading group with kids two grades above hers, so I’m a little bit stoked about that. And she’s totally digging the concept of negative numbers, and fractions, and simple multiplication problems. // Gardening, so much gardening!
    Have a great trip!
    Might I suggest the technique that helps me with stage fright (I’m a prof.)? It’s a bit of a zen-being-in-the-moment type deal, where I breathe into my fear and accept that “this is how I feel now – I’m nervous.” I don’t try to hide from the nerves, or to push them down, but just let them wash over me — then I get on with what I have to say. Sure, for the first several minutes the fear and my words co-exist, but then I find that the acknowledgement of the fear makes it sort of go from the front of my mind to the back — it doesn’t necessarily “go away” but it just resides with me and I can get on with my lecture without having the anxiety overwhelm me.
    Here’s my love list:
    I recently started collecting wild herbs, so now I’m out in the woods with my 3.5 year old every couple of days, collecting greens, admiring all kinds of little creatures we find and just generally having a great time // adding said wild greens to pretty much everything I eat // studying for my very last exam at university (ok, don’t love the studying so much, but the idea of soon finally being DONE!) // dreaming about all the things I want to do after finishing university // a close friend it’s staying at our place for a few weeks and I love having her with us and the little extra time I get at night when she brings the little one to bed // balcony gardening // the 3 storey raised bed my husband just built for me. Can’t wait to fill it up with soil and plant herbs and veggies in there. // starting to conquer my fear of communicating with people online. I admit my heart it’s racing, I’m sweaty and shaking as I write this, but it feels good. // studying Spanish for no particular reason except for the fun of learning another language // looking forward to our trip to the cycladic (not sure how they are spelled in English) islands in Greece I’m June // reading your blog // finally being able to use my bike to get from A to B again (it’s just too cold to bike for me during winter) // the extra sunshine and warmer weather // there’ll be a market with rare pants/ heirloom vegetables etc.tomorrow. Can’t wait! // teaching myself how to sew and seeing my son’s excitement every time I make something for him // all the love I received lately from my son, my husband and friends <3
    Have a great trip and happy birthday to Jeremy!
    Of course you’re a great teacher, Sayward! DUH.
    Your boy is too cute. Seriously. That pirate ship made my heart melt.
    My Love List:
    I’m watching my cat watching the birds outside in the garden. His tail is twitching and he’s oh so cute. // I decided I wanted to know what kind of bird we were looking at so I turned to Google and wouldn’t you know, there’s a super handy website that tells me which bird I’m looking for by picking a few characteristics // I’m making some money today, which is always nice // I’m having a delicious smoothie for breakfast // I’m wearing my new shorts and they look fantastic on me // Skyped with my Mum, nephew and sister yesterday. It’s my sister and brother-in-law’s first wedding anniversary. Time flies! // Life is good right now. Life is just good. Good things happening now, good things happening in the future. :)
    Thanks for bringing back the love list, I’ve been in need of gratitude lists recently to remind myself that everything is ok. xoxo
    It is so real and so infiltrates all parts of life! Grrr. At least we’ve identified it and can begin to address it, right?
    Love the love list, hope you had a fantastic weekend!
    WAHOO GROWN-UP VACATION!!!! Can’t wait to hear about it, I hope it’s totally amazing and fun and relaxing and boozy and sleepy and all the good sans-kiddo kind of stuff! ♥
  • http://bonzaiaphrodite.com/ Sayward Rebhal
    Hi Sarah, this is such a great technique, thanks for the tip. I usually do something similar, letting my body feel the stress and adrenaline, and in a way sort of “acclimating” to it. The one bad class I’ve had so far is when I went in over-confident and wasn’t able to recover after that *first* surge of adrenaline hit, because I hadn’t let myself feel it before that and therefor wasn’t used to the feeling. Anyway, thanks for the awesome technique and pep talk, truly!
    Peter Pan play is soooo fun! And we thrifted the outfit, dyed it green, and cut it up ourselves. So easy and super fun for Waits. You should totally do it with P! And geeze, he’s already getting so big!! ♥
    What a fantastic, seriously fan-tas-tic, Love List Kathi! So inspiring, I’m so glad you shared. =)
