The Weekend Send-Off

April 26th, 2013 - filed under: Furthermore » Feedback

Just turned three. This kid is fearless – and STRONG!

Hello Friday, my favorite friend! And hello friends – I hope you’re having a great Friday! I’m super excited about this weekend, mostly because my favorite local band is playing, but also because of gardening with my baby up at the preschool, a long overdue trip to the big Saturday FarMar, sleeping in on Sunday, puttering around my little cottage, and so much more. It’s gonna be a good one!

~~~
Amanda Palmer wrote a new song for the first time in years. Instead of sitting on it and waiting to put it on an album, she played it live right away and let a friend record it. It’s not the best quality but I really like it, especially this:
“the thing about things
is that they can start meaning things
nobody actually said”
~~~

One of the greatest ways to bring a bit of extra happiness into your life, is to practice gratitude. There is so much we take for granted, but so much to be thankful for! I love writing my list each week, and I LOVE reading all of yours. Let’s do it!

Le Love List!

1. Getting Re-Inspired.
Sometimes it takes a big shock to kick your ass into gear. And yes, Earth Day was hard and I got really emotional and very upset. But I’m using that negativity and FLIPPING IT POSITIVE. I’m taking action and working to make changes. Good things – great things – will come out of this sad bad thing.

I am grateful that I was raised to always stand up for what I believe in, that I am a woman of action because that is what I was taught to be, and that I can teach my son and others the same.

2. Taking Risks.
For me, big ones. But sometimes it’s just time to say “f&@$ it, what the hey” and dive on it. So far, risk has proven to be a delightful adventure. Life can be way fun, if you let it!

3. The Vegan Blogosphere.
The more people I “meet”, the more I love this amazing virtual space. SO MANY incredible, creative, inspiring people coming together to make something great. To make magic. To make change. Or just to make a good meal. There is so much out there and so many people doing important work, and I am thrilled each time I connect to one more of them.

Next month, VVC or bust, wahoooooo!!!

Also! regaining control .|. burning sage .|. a new coat of paint to brighten the whole room .|. giving Waits exactly what he wants and needs .|. Damian getting a new car, which means I get the old car full time!!! .|. bees .|. making lists .|. crossing things off my lists .|. an evening on my porch with a dear friend .|. pulling Tarot cards that make you go “WHAT?! THAT’S FREAKY!!” .|. Whole Foods 365 brand almond milk, it’s really the only one I like (and the cheapest!) .|. Macklemore is still rocking my socks off, especially with sentimental lyrics like these:

“And acquaintances turn to friends, I hope those friends they remember me,
Hold the night for ransom as we kidnap the memories,
Not sure there’s a way to express what you meant to me,
Sit around a table and use those years as the centerpiece.”

~~~
Alright guys, now it’s your turn – let me know what you’re loving this week!
This happy little post will stay at the top of the page all weekend, so stop by any time to leave your Love List, ask a question, or offer some feedback! Or if you’re new, feel free to just introduce yourself and say ‘Oi!’! This is your community, so get involved!
Hope it’s warming up where you are. Have a great weekend!
    1. A weekend away in Yosemite. Perspective, what really matters, peace, good friends. Nothing like feeling your place in nature and the daily practice of being mindful being renewed by going into one of the most beautiful places in the world.
    2. Ending the weekend by running into the ocean in Santa Cruz with all my clothes still on.
    3. Good friends, old and new, and what they remind you of in yourself. & those who are so lovely and come by to check on your cat when he’s ill every 8 hours religiously when you’re away.
    4. Books, ideas, Rabinow’s class.
    5. My little basil & microgreens coming to life.
    6. Clean laundry, clean apartment.
    1. Carrot-onion-bell pepper-mushroom-cilantro Pudla seasoned with sliced avocados and tomatoes doused in lemon juice…ERMAHGERD PUDLA!
    2. Science! Thunderstorms have been found to spew antimatter into space from our atmosphere…it’s just a matter of time before someone either A. Models the occurrence in a laboratory or B. Learns how to harness the antimatter for energy. TERRIFYING, MAJESTIC, AND AWESOME!
    3. Did I mention that I’m really digging Pudla??!
    Yes! Yes! 365 Unsweetened Almond Milk is the ONLY one I can drink. Homemade is a close second, but I have a 9 month old, a freelance marketing consulting gig and graduate school classes…so, yeah, who has time for soaking, blending and straining daily???
    My love list: my son Rowan’s super soft baby skin, cuddling with my husband as we wait for Rowan to drift into deep sleep, weather warm enough for maxi skirts, t-shirts and flip-flops, vegan cookbooks and rare getaways from the daily beat.
    Will also try turning my negativity into positivity…with “le love list!”
    -Moving back home…actually not a great thing…but better than my current situation so I am thankful to at least have that option (instead of the alternative..living in my car!)
    -The possibility of enrolling in a stress study..and even possibly getting a little bit of dough for it!
    -The hot water in my building finally coming back on! No hot water=angry me!
    -spring weather finally arriving…while it is in spurts I greatly greatly appreciate it. It always makes me realize what a grumpy grump winter makes me!
    -Maaaaybe getting to make and plant in a raised bed. One of the few positives of moving back home. While I have a major black thumb it is at least fun to try!
    -Having access to an oven that fits more than a piece of toast. Having more than one cup, fork and spoon (mind you..my single fork and spoon are miniature..for real. cocktail fork!).
    -Building a super-cheap, makeshift gate so my pup can actually run around! Will the gate actually get in the ground without falling apart? Only time will tell. Will my “baby girl” actually *want* to run around in the open yard? Of course not..ha ha. But at least I’m giving her the option. No more city living for the moment!
    -maybe juuust maybe taking a trip for the first time in…well..pretty much forever to places I have never yet been. San fran. Portland. Asheville. Let’s see where the road…er…plane leads.
  • Rebecca
    This song always puts me in such an amazing, dancing mood! Cheezy as all get out but lovely guilty indulgence!
