The Weekend Send-Off

1. Green juice in the winter sun; 2. new vintage scores set my heart aflutter; 3. bread-stravaganza

Oi Oi! Hellooooo there, and happy Friday! LOOK OUT! *whoosh* that’s the sound of this week flying by. Right?? I can’t believe the weekend is here already!

~~~
And you know what that means! Without further ado, please bring on Le Love List!
1. Massage.
Massaged: I got it. Ooooooh yeah. But get this, it was actually my birthday present from LAST year, my 30th b-day, from Damian. But what with the book-writing and the toddler-care-taking and the blog-posting and with life being oh-so-life-y all the damn time, well, I guess it slipped my mind. Damian emailed me last week saying “Uh, this is gonna expire if you don’t use it!”.
And so I did. A year and a few days later, I got my 30th birthday massage. For my 31st birthday!
And let me just tell you . . . I came home from that appointment and promptly placed a mason jar on top of my dresser. “Mommy’s Massage Fund”. Ohhhhh yes.
2. Retail Therapy.
I used my “off night” this week to take a long (long!) stroll through ye olde Value Village (ha!), blew some birthday cash and scored a few new bags (oh I heart you cheapy cheap Value Village!) of awesome winter clothes. It was just what I needed and oh-so-fun. ♥
3. Waits, the little vegan.
Waits loves to mimic everything that we say and do. He loves to talk on the “phone” (which could be anything from a wooden block to an apple), and one of his favorite phone calls is “ordering Thai food” (what does this say about Damian and I? haha). For a few weeks now he’s been picking up his “phone” and saying, “Hello! Thai?” . . . “Tofu” . . . “Mice!” (that’s rice)
But this week: “Hello! Thai?” . . . “Mice” . . . “No EGG!” . . . “No FEESH!
Ahhhhhhhhh! My head pretty much exploded at the sweetness. Also with that video up there? He is too much, I can’t take it!
Also! winter sun // dreaming and scheming with girlfriends // planning slumber parties // a 4-course, all-local, communal dining experience // reading Plate to Pixel and feeling so inspired // bright yellow // polka dots // finding new blogs and reading them “cover to cover” (what’s the blog equivalent?) and then feeling creepy because you have totally developed a one-sided “friendship” (COME ON WE ALL DO IT!) // but really, finding a blog worth reading like that is a rare and wonderful thing . . .
~~~

Alright guys, now it’s your turn – tell me what you’re loving this week!

My darlings, this happy little post will stay at the top of the page all weekend, so stop by any time to leave your Love List, ask a question, or offer some feedback! Or if you’re new, please introduce yourself and say ‘Oi!’! This is your community, so get involved!

I hope you all have a sunny (or at least sunny-in-your-heart) weekend!

  • Maria

    Ha! I totally feel creepy after developing that ‘friendship’ with you! Sorry if I seem that way, I’m perfectly normal (I think), although perhaps a little too enthusiastic about my early vegan days ;-) Waits’ video totally made my day, he is just the cutest little being! I am a few months behind you (also turning 31 this year, yikes!) and I think a massage would be the perfect gift!

    On my love list this week are just two things: Colleen Patrick-Goudreau’s and Our Hen House’s podcasts! Both recommended by you, so thank you! They’ve been vital for me during these first vegan months and they’ve kind of been the only support I have, since none of my friends or family members are vegan! So I’m really glad I’ve found this support online.

    Have a lovely weekend!

    This week did indeed fly by for me also!

    What I’m loving this week:

    1. African food and new recipes
    2. Kombucha-specifically GT Daves Mystic Mango- So.freaking.good!
    3. Scarves-it rained a good part of the week here and I busted out a new scarf everyday. It made me feel fabulous!

    He definitely is too cute!

    This week I’m loving the fact that I’m half-way through my two-week notice at my job. I’m in the home stretch! I has kind of a “dead man walking” feel but I do love the fact that I’m untouchable and don’t care about coming in late…

  • Rachel C

    The video of Waits is soooo cute/funny! I can’t stop watching it.

    Love List: 1. THAI FOOD!!! I love Thai food. I just said to my boyfriend that it’s been almost three weeks since I’ve had it…that’s way too long! Pineapple fried rice, no chicken, no shrimp, no egg with tofu and extra pineapple.
    2. Zumba.
    3. I also second Maria’s love of Colleen Patrick-Goudreau’s podcast. I’ve listened to two of them today!

    Happy (belated) Birthday! And good for you, as a busy mom, to take some time for yourself. I think so many of us could stand to take a page from that book.

    One question: any bread recipes to be posted in the future?

    Cheers!

    We refer to Value Village as the VV Boutique :) I love all the vintage toys we can find and the books. Happy weekend!

    Nothing like getting 108% on your first math test in about 8 years! Especially since getting a B on math tests has been the story of my life. Going to yoga before the test instead of cramming was definitely a good strategy. Glad you had a wonderful birthday weekend! :)

    1.baby. Duh! (Anya Elizabeth)
    2. Vegan poop. I totally had no post-partum pooping troubles. Yay, fiber!
    3. Aaron, who has been doing all of the cooking, including muffins, pancakes, or waffles every morning!
    4. The under the Nile organic sleep sack that aaron’s aunt got us. It is awesome. But there is close to 0 chance that I’d spend $30 on one item of baby clothing.
    5. My iPad, whic keeps me company during lonely nights of breastfeeding.

    LOVE that lighting in the first pic! I really hope this winter sun sticks around.

    Value Village is the BEST. Goodwill is overpriced and I recently read some unsavory things about Salvation Army (money going to anti-gay causes) but VV remains amazing and my favorite thrift chain.

  • Jen Cywinski

    I’m really glad I’m not the only one with one-sided blog friendships. I can’t wait til my blog is up and running so I can feel less creepy!

    Can’t wait until we move so I can make lots of green smoothies in my new kitchen. Ah!

  • Mary

    I’m so thankful you mentioned “one-sided friendships”!! I always feel kinda stalkerish after obsessively reading someone’s blog (including yours)!! I’m so relieved that I am not the only one who gets those feelings!

  • Kate

    1. The Book of Mormon – the musical. If you haven’t listened to it, do it. I got the golden plates! Hassa Diga Ebawai! Arnold Cunningham! Fucking frogs cures AIDS! …Trey Stone & Matt Parker are true modern day geniuses.

    2. Working on my house. God, it feels good to have time to do that. And today I scored some AWESOME velvet coffee lounge chairs at a garage sale that are just too cool for school and my living room is FINALLY starting to look like the house I’ve always wanted to design, not just what was cheap, free, or easy to move as a college student!

    3. Putting down the deposit for my first really big tattoo. A mosaic-day of the dead-donkey, half the size of a sheet of paper. I’ll see my drawing on Tuesday, and if all goes well, I’ll be tattooed Friday!!

  • http://vegetalion.blogspot.com/ Sarah P

    Waits’s “phone call” is adorable!

    It is such a relief to hear that other people do the whole “friend-crushing on blogs” thing, too. I definitely do that… including with this blog!

  • http://bonzaiaphrodite.com/ Sayward Rebhal

    Well, if I ever start posting again, there will definitely be a bread recipe. I’m still perfecting it . . . just keeps getting better! =D

  • Elise

    I am currently reading your blog “cover to cover”. Well, I started at the end (or present time) and I am slowly, but surely working my way backwards! I love your blog entries and lifestyle. I really feel like when someone writes a genuine blog and shares their true feelings, ups and downs, triumphs, and experiences (good and bad) that you truly do connect to that person. One-sided it may be (for now), but now that you have a vegan coaching practice, I may have to take you up on that offer and make it two-sided!
