The Weekend Send-Off

January 6th, 2012 - filed under: Furthermore » Feedback

Oi! Hellooooooo weekend! Even after a short 4-day week, I’m oh-so-happy to see you, dear weekend.

Now that the holidays are over and done, the madness has finally died down, and winter is really setting in (except not, hello temps in the 50s in January!), I’m looking forward to a quiet weekend of puttering around the house. Snugs with the family. DIY home improvement projects and midnight crafting. Some day I’ll start going to bed by 11 . . . but not today. Yay weekend!

~~~
And now let’s get to the good stuff: Le Love List!
1. Gardening in January.
The weather this week has been wild, reaching up into the mid-50s, and sunny. Squee! Waits and I took full advantage and finally were able to put the garden to bed for reals. Pulled out all the dead and dried plants, and spread some hay for good measure. Waits really, really loves to garden and seeing his enthusiasm is just such a pleasure.
2. Being featured on The Huffington Post.
!!!
No really, !!!
I’ve been taking on some freelance work these past few months, and this week one of my articles made it onto the Huffington Post. Ain’t gonna lie, I’m pretty proud!
3. TCB
Taking Care of Business, as Elvis used to say. Dental health, mental health, and the health of my girly bits too. Life Insurance. Harley’s tumor. Smog check.
T. C. B.
Also! road trips // lavender satchets // hummus and olives // watching the hens mud bathe in winter, they’re so cute and happy! // watching Waits try to have a conversation with Siri (the iPhone’s “intelligent personal assistant”), which is absolutely adorable and hysterical // Pinterest // cooked greens and raw desserts // my cast iron pan! . . .
~~~

Alright guys, now it’s your turn – tell me what you’re loving this week!

My darlings, this happy little post will stay at the top of the page all weekend, so stop by any time to leave your Love List, ask a question, or offer some feedback! Or if you’re new, please introduce yourself and say ‘Oi!’! This is your community, so get involved!

    1. The PPK 100!
    2. Receiving delicious homemade bread from our awesome dog walker and them lightly toasting that bread and slathering it with Earth Balance coconut spread and berry preserves. Delicious.
    3. Hanging out with and getting to know my husband’s cousins and their friends after a funeral this week. Of course, the funeral was not fun but it was great to make connections and nurture our extended family.

    Love List!

    1. The new kombucha vendor at the Farmer’s Market where I work (!!) and getting free glass jars from a random customer who wanted to get them off her hands. AND that the FarMar is now every Saturday again, instead of once a month during November and December.

    2. The unseasonably warm (and more importantly sunny) weather we’ve been having in Columbus the past couple days.

    3. Focaccia bread with lots of rosemary, garlic and olive oil.

    4. DIY home improvement projects.

    :) Happy weekend all!

    Hmm let’s see:

    1. Flower essences: these happy little potions are magical and give me even more reason to love the plant world + everything they do for us!

    2. I Heart Huckabees: every time I am feeling down, I can count on this movie to help me forget my worries + get caught up in the mysteries of life.

    3. Vegan banana cream pie: no need to explain :)

    That ginger raspberry kombucha sounds amazing! Could you please share the recipe?

    1. Alone week. I’ve not contacted any of my friends this week. It has been a week long sewing marathon. I made so many things I have wanted to make for ages. But I am feeling kind of lonely now so the movienight with friends tonight is well deserved.
    2. Coffee. Just don’t want to live without it. I know I could but I love it too much. I’m actually scrimping on other things to buy good expensive coffee.
    3. Snow!!! It’s finally here. I’ve been waiting for over a month. The past few years have had so much snow that this year seems sad and snowless. Let’s hope it stays for a while at least.

    Ah, I have not done this for months. Feels so good to write things I love down again. I actually feel better about the lack of social interactions after writing this down. I really needed this.

    So thank you for being here and making all of us do all the awesome things with you!
    A really big virtual hug for you!

    Wonderful article! One of these days we’ll be in a place big enough to need decoration. Right now it’s simply all our stuff nicely arranged.

    1. Kombucha. I’ve been trying to get back on the eating healthy track and not doing great. Not bad, but not as well as I’d like. Thursday I decided to stop and pick up some Kombucha. I’ve had it for three days in a row and I feel so much better!

    2. Church. I’m involved in the process for people wanting to join the Catholic Church this year. Things are getting started and it’s such a wonderful feeling. Being able to be there for others as they work through such a huge part of their lives is such a wonderful feeling!

    Heh, I’ve been super busy these past few days…

    57:29

    3…

    uhh my baby got mumps… but! he is not in pain or anything. he is as smiley as ever, and playful as ever and eats as much as ever. So, he is only swollen. I guess I should be grateful for that, right?

    Hello, I’ve been reading your blog for a couple months now and I love it! Your garden beds are beautiful and getting me recharged for cleaning up mine, but it looks like your corner posts are pressure treated wood, pressure treated wood contains a mess of toxic chemicals including arsenic…just looking out! take care!

    Yay for the NPR!!!!

    Congrats on the article, Sayward! It’s about time. ;)

    Loving this week:

    1. Being totally disconnected from the internet without even realizing it for about a month now, I think?

    2. Knitting things for mySELF now that the holidays are over, and also, having the confidence to just make up my own patterns when I can’t find what I’m looking for.

    3. Setting a new weekend routine with Nina that we both love right off the bat – a day hike on Saturdays, and hitting our newish, local coffee shop for Mama/Nina Girl Time on Sunday mornings. Lincoln Logs, wi-fi, the Sunday NYT and our signature drinks keep the Soria-Caruso ladies happy.

    4. Nina convinced our barista on Sunday morning to give veganism “One more shot, buddy!”

    5. Marathon training!

    6. Nina can imitate Jemaine’s dance moves from FotC to a T, and it is the funniest. thing. ever.

    This week I’m loving

    *my new sofa! Well, it’s not actually new – it’s a second-hand sofa someone gave me via freecycle (which makes it all the more brilliant, I think). I have never owned a sofa in my adult life and am so enjoying spending whole eveningy on it with tea, the paper/a good book and the odd cat. :)

    *the simple life. I’m waiting for an invoice to be paid. Since it’s quite a lot of money I’m waiting for, I’m getting a bit desperate. On the other hand, I like having to be rather inventive with my cooking, and I’m using up staples from my pantry that I had completely forgotten about. I also love how simple things become something really special when you can’t afford to do/buy/etc. them as often as you’re used to.

    * baked soybeans. With tomato sauce. AND fried potatoes. Yum!

    Have a brilliant week, everyone!

    bettina
