The Weekend Send-Off

Best mocha I have ever had in my life, hands down. EVER. Barista.

Oi! I am soooo glad it’s the weekend. How about you? What a week!

Just a quick and friendly reminder that I don’t accept Facebook friends requests from people I don’t know in real life. Honestly I’m rarely on there anyway so you’re not missing much, haha. But don’t take it personally, it’s just my setup.

Now no more business, let’s move on to the good stuff. Le Love List! Mine:

1. Mochas. I am on a kick for reals. Mochas and mochas and more mochas. I’ve never been a mocha person until this week. Once I discovered the perfect mocha (pictured above) I’ve been chasing that high ever since. Haven’t found anything to compare to that first mocha, but they all sure are good. (mochamochamocha)

2. Hot Sauce. I love a rooster, yes I do. But the rooster, it doesn’t love me back, by which I mean – those ingredients! Eek! What’s a whole foods health nut to do?? Well, you asked and I shall deliver. I’ve got a trial run of homemade DIY Sriracha fermenting (yes, fermenting!) in my kitchen. And oh, I think that it will be good.

3) Family Time! We’re road-tripping up to see my in-laws this weekend, and I am SO excited! Love my family, love to get away, love the spring and adventures it brings. Wheeee!

Okay, I showed you mine, now you show me yours! What do you love this week?

My darlings, this happy little post will stay at the top of the page all weekend, so stop by any time to leave your Love List, ask a question, or offer some feedback! Or if you’re new, please introduce yourself and say ‘Oi!’! This is your community, so get involved!

Enjoy your weekend and may it be sunny and spring-y where you are as well!

    weeeee! I am loving:

    - that it is Friday
    - that this weekend will be upper 60s even 70 on Sunday!
    - that I am headache free 2 days now! in a ROW!
    - that it is Friday…

    have a great trip!

  • http://bluknotsoriginals.blogspot.com @tishushu

Woohoo! Cant wait till you give the sriracha results!

    My love list!

1.Eggplant! Me and my gf roasted some eggplant slices with rosemary, sage, a little oil, garlic, and pepper! Best sandwiches eva!

2.Family (biological or otherwise)- Spent Friday- Monday on Sapelo Island (off coast of Georgia) loving nature with the greatest group of guys, my daughter and my sweetie. My first camping trip!

    3. Bartering! I made a nettle tincture for my daughter’s horrible allergies, and I made enough to share with another allergy suffering friend… In return she gave me an aloe plant! It was right on time, too, since we burned a little on the beach (see number two)!

    4. Thankfulness! A lot of families were devastated here in the South by the incredible rash of tornadoes. Luckily there was no damage to our home. I wasn’t so lucky in 2008, when the first recorded tornado to ever hit Atlanta struck downtown. My car, and lot of others in the lot, was TOTALED!

    Have a great weekend!

Helloooooooooo, weekend! I’m so glad it’s finally Friday!

    1. I finally signed up for the LSAT – no turning back now!

    2. Approaching 100% raw. I’ve never felt better, and with chronic immune-related gut issues, that’s saying a lot. My quality of life just went up ten-fold.

    3. My little farm. Everything is growing and blooming and sprouting, my mache already bolted and the flowers are so delicate and pretty, my trellis peas are taller than my kiddo…it’s so awesome!

    Happy weekend, everyone!

  • http://goldfinchanchor.blogspot.com Kaitlin

Ohhh man, do I ever love me some hot cock sauce ;) Seriously though, if that crazy DIY Sriracha works out, do share the recipe!

  • http://emilyscrueltyfreekitchen.blogspot.com/ Emily

I’ve been reading for just a couple weeks now and I absolutely love your blog! Can’t wait to keep on readin’ :)

  • Selina

1.) today’s weather! spring has finally sprung in the northwoods! it was snowing here two days ago…
2.) reached my initial goal of exclusively breastfeeding little G. for six months! yay! on to the one-year mark…
3.) after a few weeks of coaxing her to “just try a teeny taste”, my daughter informed me today that she likes her daily spoonful of blackstrap molasses! victory!! :)

    Life is good!

  • Annelise

    1) I mentioned to my boss that I was interested in learning to quilt, and she brought me a pattern and spent half an hour running me through it. Having awesome people around you who help you achieve your goals = love.
    2) Bean burgers. I’ve been transitioning into vegan, and it has me learning a lot of new recipes. We made black bean burgers last week for the first time, and we are in *LOVE*.
    3) SPRING. It seemed like this NH winter would never end. But it’s finally warm, plants are blooming, and our CSA starts in two weeks. I’m pleased as can be.

    I hope ya’ll have a great weekend!

  • Viki

Hi! I just found your site this week and I’m so excited to try some of your recipes (deoderant esp… can’t stand the commercial stuff… btw are you still using the recipe you posted?)! Anyway, my son’s just a few months younger than yours (who is super cute!) and I found your site searching for vegan baby nutrition, etc. I’ve been vegan for a few months and love finding recipe ideas and like-minded peeps since my
hometown is not exactly vegan-friendly. Love the site, thanks for sharing!

  • Staar

    My love list:

    -Seeing old friends
    -Family Dinners
    -Reading old books

  • Alexander

My love list (it’s very garden-tastic):
    1. The first leaf on my cherry tree. It’s really big in comparison to the the thin, little trunk. Hilarious looking, really.
    2. All four of my sweet pepper plants sprouted! They’re already pretty tall and have only been in soil for a couple days.
    3. Purple flowers that I found when I went to measure the area where my garden will go this year. There is a bunch of clumps of them. They’re not those tiny little ones that cover the ground either, I think they might be some sort of violet.

Yeah, I’m excited that our final frost date is 12 days, how did you guess?

  • Sam

    OI!

I’m also new (guess this post was a great magnet for newb’ comments haha) but I’ve been reading for about a week now and just wanted to say- AWEsome blog, and I’m also feeling the insane love and inspiration that springtime brings.

I’m in Columbus, Ohio, and I’m loving
    1. the new baby leaves on the trees,
    2. my dog actually enjoying being outside now that it’s warm,
    3. the nearly overflowing streams and rivers,
    4. my three-year old nephew who I babysit (and leech the joys of childhood from), and
    5. the fact that our epic summer Farmer’s Market begins next weekend!! Yay for being a locavore.

  • Sonja

    Yeah, weekend! My love list:
    1. spring weather
    2. breakfast with my boyfriend
    3. making preparations for my volunteering project in Cambodia
    4. cleaning my room
    5. meeting my friends
    6. book bargains
    7. raspberry coconut porridge

  • Minna

Alright, I guess I should try and list some things that make me happy, although practicing positive thinking has become difficult lately. Maybe the love lists will help me notice those happy little things around me :)

    1. My family, especially my parents. Distance makes you realise how much they really mean. Always there when you need them, always ready to help you. People that stick with you no matter what! <3
    2. My new blender that makes me delicious green smoothies almost every morning! (Connected to the last statement: my dad thought I need an early birthday present :)
    3. Sunshine.

Tonight's the Walpurgis Night celebration over here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walpurgis_Night which should represent Spring's victory over Winter and is somehow connected to sorcerers' and witches' gathering and whatnot… Nowadays it's just another excuse to party though :)

    Have a happy weekend!

  • Sierra Dawn

    Hellooooo Weekend!!

    1. My hilarious kiddos – who needs a t.v. with these two around?!
    2. Swansons Nursery. Where has this place been all my life? I’ve been in Seattle for almost seven years and am just now discovering it!
    3. Spring!!! Woo hoo! My birdie girls might get to go outside today!
    4. Bonzai Aphrodite:) I stumbled upon this site a few weeks ago and I’m loving waking up in the morning with my cup o joe and my laptop thinking, ” I wonder what Sayward is up to now…”

  • Shelby

I absolutely love your site, but I have a really hard time making your recipes work for me! They taste awesome, but I don’t have time for all that cooking! I know you love to spend a lot of time in the kitchen, but I am always on the go go go! Do you have any super portable recipes?

  • http://miraz38.livejournal.com Mandie

    My love list!
    1. I finally found some herbs! Now I can enjoy some fresh herbs, and hopefully keep them going through the winter? We’ll see…
    2. Our beater car has bitten the dust. I’m not happy about that, BUT it gave my hubs the push to take the winter tires off the fun car and we cruised in that last night, it was nice :)
    3. Sunday mornings! Unhurried coffee, quiet time, sunshine…

  • http://exoticdonkeymeat.com Kate

    LOVE LIST! <3

    1. Google Calendar. Thank god I have this. She keeps me straight and sane!
    2. The newfound open communication I have with the love of my life. It's been hard to talk through some things we've been working through, but it's so invigorating at the same time. Yay!
    3. Completing the WARRIOR DASH! I scaled walls, jumped fire, and braved a mud pit! What a fun race :)

Also, on the note of #2 above…I'd love a little peek into Sayward's work/life balancing act. I find myself to be just as busy as you are, constantly loading up my plate with new things and moving (or at least thinking!) at 100000 miles a minute. I personally think that if I dated some one as nuts as me it might drive me crazy, but I also see that you do a lot of things on your own and Damain seems really independent (?). Also, you're a fan of some 'crazy' views (ie, RAW) that he doesn't always go along with and you are both still incredibly happily married with an adorable but occasional baby terrorist. How does the super passionate mom/activist/blogger/farmer/dog owner make time for all of those things? Where do you find balance (and no cheating by saying 30 day breaks from the world!! :).

As some one else who suffers from Hyper Productivity Disorder, I'd love to collaborate on ways to make our 'go go go!' selves fit in with those who may just operate at 'going'.

  • http://windycityvegan.wordpress.com Monika {windycityvegan}

@Kate: Another Warrior Dasher? Sweet! I’m doing the one in the Carolinas in August. Have you heard of the Metro Dash (Navy Seal obstacle course)? http://running.competitor.com/2011/04/news/tap-into-your-inner-navy-seal_26191

It’s on my to-do list for next year.

  • Moira

Metro dash?? I’ve never heard of it before, but it looks AWESOME. What a fun challenge!

  • http://windycityvegan.wordpress.com Monika {windycityvegan}

@Moira: I have high expectations for both the WD and MD – now I just have to prepare myself for the fallout if I bring Nina to watch, because she’s going to be super-duper peeved that she can’t participate! I used to do something called the Wild Scallion when I lived in the Chicago, it was GPS-driven and was a lot of fun.

  • http://exoticdonkeymeat.com Kate

@Monika – I’m not sure how old Nina is, but quite a few kids (10 years old, maybe?) passed me during the WD. I have to say, I didn’t train because I didn’t realize how busy this time of year is (the end of the last semester of college, who would’vethunkit?!)

But yes, the WD was a BLAST!! I’m sure you’ll have a great time in August. That Metro dash looks great, but I’m in Phoenix and didn’t see that they’re heading this way anytime soon :(

PS – I read your awesome post on vegan running. I’m not a full blown vegan, or even vegetarian, but I eat an incredibly small amount of meat and keep weaning off other animal products slowly. This is my second round of going veg, and I noticed the biggest change was my ATTITUDE about meatless diet + running. Thanks for sharing :)

  • http://windycityvegan.wordpress.com Monika {windycityvegan}

@Kate: Nina’s only four, and I checked with WD and they won’t let me sign a waiver…too young. :( We’re camping out for a couple of nights before the dash, so maybe I can tire her out the night before that she’ll oversleep? That’s what I’m hoping, anyway.

Thanks for the feedback on the running post! I went veg for health reasons, and it was also around the same time that I became serious about running. Diet and running are so interconnected for me that for a long time I didn’t ascribe labels to my diet or lifestyle, except in terms of how it affected performance. (I was quite obnoxious to be around, I’m sure!)

  • http://bonzaiaphrodite.com Sayward

@ Kristina – Yes yes yes to the weather finally brightening up. I am SO ready for it! I actually got a little bit sunkissed yesterday (whoops!). FINALLY

@ tishushu – Your whole list sounds great, but nettles for aloe?? Sounds like the best barter ever!

@ Monika – Yay for the LSAT, no turning back is right. I’m super happy for you!

@ Kaitlin – You can expect my own version of hot cock sauce, coming soon. ;-)

@ Emily – Yay, thanks for reading and WELCOME!

@ Selina – Aw, congrats on making 6 months. I make little goals like that for my breastfeeding too. Also congrats on the molasses, that’s great!

@ Annelise – Sounds like your boss is super sweet, what a blessing to have a good work environment. And yay spring!

@ Viki – Hi! Welcome to the site and I’m so glad to hear from another vegan mama, that’s awesome! I’m still using my deo recipe, when I wear deo at all . . . which is actually pretty rarely these days. We’ll see if I can keep that up in summer, but for now after a few months on the all natural homemade stuff, I stopped really sweating/smelling and I stopped needing any deodorant. Same thing happened to Damian. Very interesting . . .

@ Staar – I love re-reading old books, if I had my way I’d probably never read a new one Im such a nostalgic lady, haha.

@ Alexander – Congrats on all that garden glory, and I soooo share your excitement. It’s going to be a great year for growing, I can feel it!

@ Sam – Hey, welcome to the site! Love your love list, especially the overflowing waterways (I love that about this time of year too!) and the impending Farmer’s Market. Very exciting and I couldn’t agree more, being a local-vore feels GREAT!

@ Sonja – Yay for extended love lists! So many wonderful things to be grateful for. =)

@ Minna – I’m sorry your going through a rough time lady. But it sounds like you do have some fun stuff to be happy about. Not that it’s easy to feel that way when you’re feeling down. I know so many people who are bordering on depression these days – I think a lot of it is the time of year. Try to keep in mind that life cycles, and you will be on top of the world again someday (soon!). I wish I was there to make you tea and bake vegan cookies and dance around in our pjs or something equally as silly. I’m thinking of you!

@ Sierra Dawn – Wasn’t it gorgeous in Seattle yesterday?? (Sunday) We were across the sound but it was SO beautiful and warn and perfect, I even got too toasty from the sun but I don’t care. It was amazing. We went on a walk and saw the most amazing wild trilliums . . . love the PNW so much. =)

@ Shelby – That’s totally fair, ha! I think I have a hang-up where I’m afraid to post “simple” recipes, but it’s silly because I love simple recipes! I do cook a lot of quicker foods. I’ll make a point of getting more of that stuff up, k?

@ Mandie – You can always bring them inside for winter. They should be super happy on a windowsill through the colder months.

@ Kate – SUPER interesting request. I’m going to have to think about that one . . . so I’m not going to write a whole lot now but I promise you it’ll be in my mind. Maybe I can email you?

Hello runners! Love reading your conversation and your passion, I am extremely jealous! =D

    ~~~
    Love to you all, hope everyone had a great weekend!
