Hi Sayward. I really enjoy your blog. I tried your recipe for deodorant and love it. When I first started using it, it made my pit break out, but then I added additional corn starch and all has been well since. I love hearing about simple and safe home remedies. Love the laundry detergent! I catch a lot of flack from friends and family who say I am too extreme in some things and hyporcritical with others. I say they are just afraid to try! One does not have to do everything perfectly. Doing a little is always better than doing nothing. And learning, being open minded and not being afraid to experiment is not a bad thing in my humble opinion. But alas I am preaching to the choir. Keep up the great work. I look forward to reading your blog for a long time to come.

@ Amy Petz – Thanks so much lady! ANd I’m glad you got the deodorant working for you. I’ve heard of people reacting to concentrated baking soda, and it sounds like you did just the right thing, from what I’ve read.

AS for the rest, I’m in full agreement. One of my favorite quotes goes something like, “You don’t have to do nothing, just because you can’t do everything.”

Keep up the good fight! See you around the site. =)

Just wanted to introduce myself. I have recently discovered your blog and find it very inspiring. In June I became a vegetarian and have for the past week been vegan. I love how I feel and definitely want to keep it up. My husband even became vegetarian and he hates vegetables. It is weird because I have had an adorable staghound for the past year and loving another species so much just solidified all the other reasons I had. She is not a vegetarian. I’ve heard of vegetarian dogs. Not sure if we could afford the kibble. What are your thoughts on that?

  • Lisa M

Also do you have any amazing cookbook recommendations and/or websites?

@ Lisa M – Congrats on going veg, and welcome to the site! And double congrats to your husband, that’s really great of him to join you.

I have seen vegetarian and even vegan dogs, and I know that it is possible. Dogs are omnivores much like people (unlike cats for example, which are obligate carnivores), and can therefor thrive on plant-based diets. The kibble is ridiculously expensive though. I’m going to begin experimenting with vegan dog food soon, and I’ll be cooking up my own homemade recipes. I’ll be making a post about it for sure!

    Here’s my favorite vegan websites:
    http://veganyumyum.com/
    http://vegandad.blogspot.com/
    http://blog.fatfreevegan.com/

And the absolute best vegan cookbook:
    Veganomicon

Good luck! Thanks for stopping by and hope to see you around the site. =)
