The Friday Feedback Forum

May 29th, 2009 - filed under: Furthermore » Feedback

Oi there, it’s weekend time! And better yet, it’s the LAST Friday of the month! That means it’s time for our Monday Monthly Mission roundup. This month you read all about my mission with the Master Cleanse, which I summarized here. For those of you who participated, how did it go? Did anyone do a modified cleanse, like a raw trial or a meat-free week? What did you learn from your experience?

I had a healthy and fruitful cleanse, but I sure am glad it’s over! If you’re late to the game, don’t sweat it! Just check out the links above, or scout the food page under ‘Foodstyles’ for everything I’ve posted on cleansing. Remember, it’s never too late to BONZAI!

Have you have a good week? I did! What about you – what has made you smile recently?

This is your space for comments, critiques, thoughts, support, and suggestions. So what’s been on your mind? What do you want to see more of? (the food? the fashion? the farm?) What are YOU interested in? The Feedback Forum will be hanging out here at the top of the page all weekend, so if you have an idea or a question or you just want to introduce yourself and say ‘Oi!’, this is the place to do it.

And as always, have the most wonderful weekend!

Hi there! I followed you from the naturalliving community on LJ,I love the recipes and how-to’s you post! great stuff.

I’ve been thinking of trying a ‘cleanse’,espeically after reading your posts, but I’m concerned mostly about the hunger pains/headaches.I’ve been an on and off vegan for the past months and I want to kind of just start over, you know? I was wondering how you dealt with the headaches/hunger pain, any sort of remedies that worked for you, etc.I guess it’s kind of a naive question, since the answer is ‘eat’,but I want to do it for other reasons too,i guess ‘spiritually’.I’ve been eating poorly and I just want to clean my slate.
    ANYWAYS,that was long,sorry!
love the blog, keep it up :o)

cat pee: I’m with you there! I have a few days off now to study for my final exams in psychology, but I’m guessing now might not be the right time to go through a master cleanse when orals are coming up hehe :)
I think I might be putting it off because I’m too scared of what might happen. Headaches, hunger, fuzzy tongue, all of it is just a lot of excuses on my part for not having the guts to go for it. But I will definitely go on a cleanse this summer, though! First week of vacation it is :) Up here in Norway we have five weeks vacation every year, but I’m a teacher so I get almost double. Hoorraaayyy :)

I love folling your experiments Sayward, it’s so helpful to have your opinion on things – everything you do is very clear, straight-forward and honest. Keep up the amazing work! :D

I am really interested in beauty/hygiene products that meet a variety of standards (yours of course). Hair care, face care, is there an environmentally friendly nailpolish by chance? Thanks!

@ cat pee & @ Margaretha – I *definitely* understand the notion of wanting to start over with a clean slate; that’s what led me into my first cleanse! As far as discomfort, I truly believe that it’s part of the cleanse. If it wasn’t difficult, what would be the point? Overcoming the challenge, working through the intensity – not just through it, but being present within it – that is all part of the learning of a cleanse.

As far as hunger, I don’t really experience much when I’m cleansing. I do get the headaches, but the only thing that I can recommend for those is a cool compress, a dark room, and rest. The headache is just caffeine withdrawal, so unless you can maintain the addiction indefinitely, I guess some day the headache is inevitable, you know?

I really do urge anyone to try a cleanse. Maybe schedule it for a week when you’ll have a light load at work, not a lot of social engagements, and low emotional obligations. I find I want to spend a lot of time alone, inward, etc. When I’m alone with myself, discomfort is okay because I can meet it face to face, and learn. Does that make sense?

    and thanks guys!

@ Amber – Beauty products are so tough, because ‘green’ is such a trend right now that the words are becoming meaningless. I am definitely in the process of sorting through a variety of products. Look out for a comprehensive comparison of natural body lotions, and a complete vegan lip balm review, coming soon! =)

Nail polish is tough, but I’m holding out hope. I’ll definitely bump it to the front of the ‘research’ line now.

    Hello!

I’m on Day 5 of the cleanse. Like you, I’m finding it to be a lot easier this time around. I haven’t had many detox symptoms at all, and no cravings. (This isn’t to say that I don’t want food, I’ve been cooking for my husband and certainly want to eat the food, but I don’t randomly out of nowhere have cravings like I did last time) I think that I’m just going to keep the cleanse up through Tuesdays (so 7 full days). Last time I also only fasted for 7 days, as I’m fairly tiny and was losing weight. I’m glad that I’m doing it though!

Thanks for inspiring me to actually go through with the cleanse again!

When you broke the fast did you do it according to the 3 or 4 day plan in the book? I’m deciding how I’m going to do it this time. In 2006 I used a somewhat modified cleanse-breaking schedule, and I haven’t decided what I’m going to do this time around.

    Thanks for doing this blog!

@ Meghan – Congratulations on your second cleanse! That’s really awesome. I hope this response makes it back to you in time, but to answer you about breaking the fast –
Both times I’ve done a three-day gradual ease out of fasting. Day 1 (day 11 of the fast) I add water-diluted OJ in the morning and undiluted OJ at night, while continuing to drink my lemonades. On day 2 (day 12 of the fast) I drink some OJ, some fresh organic carrot juice, and other 100% juices if I feel like it, along with some lemonades. On day 3 (day 13) I drink more juice, eat some fruit, drink more lemonade, and then that night I have a homemade veggie soup. Mostly broth, just a few veggies. The day after that I figure I’m free to graze. =)
Hope that helps and is not too late! Good luck!

Oooooh… carrot juice sounds really good! I had my first orange juice last night (it wasn’t lemon! or lime! woo!) and it was great! Maybe I’ll go out and get some carrot juice later today.

    Thanks!

@ Meghan – I totally know that feeling, haha. ‘not lemon, woo-hoo!’ =)
