I love nasturtiums! They're so pretty, and so tasty ;) I'm reading Amanda Palmer's The Art of Asking right now and (I hope this doesn't bother you - I think she rules so it's a compliment coming from me) I can't help but think of you while I read it, as if it's actually you who I'm reading. You're two peas in a pod; the same fire and fighter and dreamer and sorceresses. I use the term dichotomy to describe my life as well, it's a life very well lived in my mind. Oh and my three sisters are all pregnant and though none of them are vegan I'm using your pregnancy guide for reference to understand what their going through so I can be supportive! Love list - definitely when I discovered yesterday all the lily bulbs are sprouting xox Happy Spring!

I'm often surprised when I realize I enjoy routine and structure! I always think I don't, and the reality is sometimes it's exactly what I need to help keep my creative juices in line- oh don't forget deadlines and tangible goals, all these things used to sound soul-sucking, and somehow they are pretty dang helpful these days!

YAY for the convergence of all of your passions! I seriously enjoy seeing it happen, and it gives me hope for myself too!

Aww, that's so awesome! I remember you talking last year about how everything planted had died, and it was such a bummer. Very cool that you've had a bunch of volunteers to start the garden party early this year. =D

And funny, I was just talking to some friends about La Jolla! I've always wanted to go when they're calfing -- that's really awesome you got to see that. And nursing!! Eeee! I can't wait to take Waits some day.

Sounds like a great week! ♥

Love list this week was all about sitting back and watching nature take it's course: Watching our once dead garden beds grow a large potato plant and cucumbers after throwing scraps in their randomly...I thought why not compost directly in the garden to maybe enrich the soil? And Voilá!
Also, taking Phoenyx down to see the Seals and Sea Lions in La Jolla.... and all the pups were out!!! The mamas were teaching their littles to swim and nursing them on the beach. There were all sorts of different Sea birds in their nests w/babies as well. We watch a lot of Planet Eath and nature shows in general, so it was great to share that in person with Phoenyx:)

Ooh! This is a great question! I've actually been meaning to poll my Facebook friends on the same topic. We listened to The Unexplainable Disappearance Of Mars Patel, which is a serialized mystery podcast for kids. It's aimed at 10-12 year olds, but Waits LOVED it. It made me want to get more podcasts for kids! So, I would definitely try that one (although 4.5 might really be too little) and I'll have to get back to you on the rest. ♥

so, question: what are your favorite podcasts for kids?
I apologize if you've mentioned this already, and I'm failing at hw.

We are regular consumers of moth, ted, hidden brain, freakonomics, and of course, radio lab. I definitely notice my 4.5 yo catching on, but sometimes he asks for additional clarification. That's awesome, and we got excited. We looked for kid-specific podcasts, found brains on (http://www.brainson.org/), but I almost feel like it's on par with radio lab for most of the topics.

Any ideas?

We usually listen to NPR (which has been terribly depressing/frustrating given our political s(h)ituation), or KEXP, otherwise.
