There's the Grit In Athens! Amazing veggie and vegan fare... amazing cakes and pies too. It's really the only "caters to veggies" restaurant I know of down here.
I understand your pain though... Luckily Athens is a college town so usually there's a couple options everywhere else too.

We haven't watched that-- will totally check it out! Honestly, after "Be the Creature" my guy just seemed ready for the real deal: full-blown documentaries! Many made by BBC-- all of the "Walking With..." series are amazing. We went from dinosaurs down the rabbit hole to prehistoric beasts (I wasn't even sure at first if these things had really ever existed!) and further into mammals and then into ice age stuff.... He was only 4 or 5 when we were watching a lot of that but he seemed to handle it just fine. Now has a major handle on the circle of life, if you will. The reality is, animals eat other animals and there is **shocker** blood involved. I hope Waits keeps it up!

What an awesome science center. And Nina would go wild for Tess the robot! We're a science-y family, too. I was pre-med a zillion years ago and kept most of my textbooks, which she loves pouring over. The Human Brain Coloring Book is something we work on together (neurology was/is my pet interest). Other favorite topics right now: simple chemistry (lots of rockets and volcanoes are born in my kitchen), lava, viruses, and bone marrow. Nina's favorite show is the Wild Kratts, for four years now I think? She also likes Cosmos, NOVA, and anything about forensics. Her grandmothers maintain multiple magazine subscriptions for her, and her favorite is Ranger Rick. That about covers her interests in the natural sciences - she's also quite interested in social/behavioral science, which is my strong suit. :)

Hi Sayward, I enjoy your blog and haven't commented before. I come from a family of scientists too, physics lecturer father and mother chemist. I'm studying archeology. Something I've been meaning to ask about your lifestyle is hoart he non science things fit into it. Like, there's no evidence that gluten intolerant unless they're actual celiacs- this was proved recently. And there's no evidence that probiotics actually work. Etc. I try to be open minded about these things but there is so much woo out there already that I feel it's my role to get people to question it and to debunk it as well. Anecdotal and personal experiences are fine of course but they are not science.. Most people don't make that distinction. Sorry for the long comment!
