Hi Keleigh, so I don't think that I'll have a post on BC any time soon, but I can tell you that the copper IUD is my number one rec for non-hormonal BC. Not "natural" per se, but at least it's not pumping your body full of artificial hormones.

That said, if you have a Mirena and it's working for you, then that's awesome. Plenty of people have great experiences with hormonal BC and I would never try to make them feel bad for that! But for me, hormones never worked, and just messed with me more than they helped. So for me, the copper IUD was awesome.

These days I mostly use an iPhone app to chart my cycles and work with that. It is definitely NOT the most full-proof method, but I'm clear on what I would do in case of accidental pregnancy and it's what works for me now. I find the app charting to be incredibly effective and very accurate. So it's been great for the past few years.

Again, I hesitate to officially recommend this method because it's statistically not as effective as BC. But yeah, that's been working for me.

Hope that helps!

Hi Sayward, love your blog and just did a google search to see if you ever wrote about birth control. I had the Mirena IUD inserted 4 months ago (was VERY hesitant to do anything with hormones - have been hormonally all natural for 10 years - but had ample encouragement from my doc), after hearing some negative stories from friends about the copper IUD. Any plans to open up the BC discussion on Bonzai Aphrodite? Just wanting some insight and support around the intersection of natural lifestyle and effective birth control...

In terms of juicing - how do you ensure that both yourself & Waits aren't consuming too much sugar? I've recently started juicing & am worried about this.

& would definitely be interested in more info on how you supplement, specific vitamins and more generally - particularly about whether you use synthesised supplements - is it worth even using these etc?

What are the basic essentials in terms of vitamin supplementation for optimal vegan health?

Love your blog, thanks!

I'd love to see you engage some of the issues surrounding vegan parenting. How you address questions Waits has, how you interact with non-vegans who are skeptical or critical, and your plans for raising Waits as a vegan. Thanks Sayward!

Aspiring Vegan here - I've been off and on vegetarian all of my life and did not really awaken to the reasons *why* I was not comfortable eating meat until a few years ago. Therefore, when we met, my husband, then boyfriend, knew me as an omnivore. He was raised in a VERY meat and potatoes family, but he is an extremely kind, supporting, and compassionate individual, so this change in *my* diet has been a difficult one, but one that he supports. However, changing to a vegan diet is proving to be much more difficult while he still eats meat. I was wondering if Damien was vegan when you met him, or if you were or weren't, and if you two had a transitional period with your diets, or, if you knew any stories of people in similar situations. It'd be great to hear some stories about transitioning couples and how to navigate those lifestyle changes.

How do you handle friends, family and coworkers who love to make fun of what you eat or don't eat and want to argue with you about it and tell you that everything you think is wrong. They'll even make animal noises as they're eating in front of you and talk about how the animal they're eating was killed and laugh about it. Do you have suggestions about how to deal with these type of things from people that are in your everyday life?

Hi Sayward, you rock! You always seem to have the answers to the questions on my mind, but I usually have to dig deep within the blog to find them! This FAQ is a great idea. Would love to see a Q about home-made cleaning supplies (i.e. links to all your great cleaning recipes, plus how to use baking soda, vinegar, lemon juice, etc. around the house). Maybe a similar one with links to your home-made personal care products. Hugs!
