Thanks everyone for the nice comments - it was a little nerve-wracking writing a guest post for my favourite blog!

Monika, I have the same experience with my family when I eat high raw - they end up eating at least 50% raw and the kids have even developed a preference to eat some vegetables raw all the time (e.g. red capsicum, corn and carrot.)

For anyone that tried the dressing and felt inspired to experiment with other non-oily dressings, avocado makes another great base. Add half a cup of water and blend up a ripe avocado with some herbs and lemon or lime juice... this makes a dressing that is creamy and fluffy and also stretches your precious avocados further.

This is such a great article, and a good reminder that it is very doable to retrain one's taste buds. I've recently switched back to high-raw for the warmer months and at mealtime, I make cooked accompaniments for my husband and daughter but also put out enough raw foods for them to eat high-raw, if they'd like. They've slowly been transitioning towards more raw, and I'm certain that it's on account of their eating more raw foods in general.

@ Selina - That's *great* news, thanks for the awesome comment. I love hearing that stuff - totally makes my day!

@ Adrienne Audrey - Aw, don't beat yourself up! No use in worrying about what's already done (especially with food). Just put that energy into making nutritious choices in the future. Oh, and make sure they're delicious choices too! ;-)

@ Amanda - Ha! That's so funny, but I've totally had the same sort of experience. Especially with refined sugar. Once I'm away from it I just don't want it.

@ erosan - I agree on tomatoes and can't *wait* for the season. I prefer them warm from the sun straight off the vine, mmm. I'm so sad by the mealy mess of tomatoes we endure all winter (I just stop eating them)

@ SJ Smith - I also am looking forward to trying that recipe! =D

MMmmmm this looks delish! I've found the same thing, as far as eating healthier begets wanting to eat healthier. I can't wait to try your dressing out!

I agree that you can get used to the subtle sweetness of fresh produce and the more you eat that (and avoid supersugary stuff like soda) the more you will enjoy fruit and veggies.

To me, there is nothing as refreshing as a good tomato out of the fridge (still no luck growing them) with nothing else on top.

Then again, I also enjoy my pizza and hamburgers (real ones, not mcDonalds and similar patties with 50% soy protein 50% mistery meat, 100% artificially infused cardboard flavor)...

Ooh, that recipe sounds lovely! I'll have to give it a go.

I have found that the more delicious, fresh, raw vegan foods I eat, the more I love them! The other day I came home from a long day, and instead of craving ice cream like I may have pre-vegan, I just wanted a nice carrot ^^

Interesting article. I need to get my self back on track. I am literally eating a slice of pizza while reading this and I feel terrible about myself since I was doing so well with a vegan diet up until about a month ago!

Hi!
I've never commented here before, but I found your blog during your March break and LOVE it!
All I was looking for a recipe for homemade laundry detergent for my diapers, but your posts about veganism caught my eye. For the last month, ALL I have done is research the topic...long story short, I am now committed to being vegan! :)
I am trying to switch my two and a half year old daughter to a vegan lifestyle as well, but it's been hard when she asks for the meat that's on daddy's plate...this post gives me hope that if I stick with it, she will get used to the new (exciting!) flavors.
It doesn't help that my husband isn't on board at all, and all of our family keeps giving her meat, milk, and eggs even though I have told them that I don't want them to...:S
Sorry so long, but I just wanted to say thanks and let you know that your blog has been the catalyst for a few new vegan conversions! :)
