@ Alyssa - Gah, that's so frustrating! But it's so true, people hear what the want to hear ESPECIALLY when it comes to food. And that camp is so good at painting a pretty picture - I'm not surprised your mil got sucked in. But good for you for seeing right through the bullshit! I just listened to an interview with her and was squawking over the half-truths and misrepresentations. Grr . . . oh well. I can't wait to hear what you think of Just Food!

@ Ms Polkadot - Hello! Welcome! =D

@ Natasja - Suggestions duly noted! In the meantime I can't speak highly enough of Becoming Vegan by Davis and Melina. STELLAR nutritional info in there, I bet you'd find it super helpful. Also, my goodness get that boy some veggies! How about something like a thick stew or a pot pie or something equally as hearty that you can sneak some potatoes, peas, and carrots into? Luck!

Love to everyone, hope you all had a wonderful and LOW-STRESS holiday season!

@erosan: Congrats!!

Loves:
1 - Job security. I have been busy beyond belief at work and I feel as though I've let everyone down lately - I've canceled/no-showed social engagements, I'm behind on not-work-related writing assignments, late nights at the office have disappointed my daughter, and I have about a zillion unanswered e-mails. BUT, I have a job, a job that I love (most of the time), a modest but steady income that's just enough to allow for my husband to be a stay-at-home-parent, and when I'm in law school I'm sure I'll look back fondly at my current work load.

2 - Going for a run on freshly fallen snow!

3 - leg warmers

Hi! Happy holidays to everyone :)
* I love everything.

Sayward! I have some ideas! What about how to make the HEALTHY transition to a vegetarian diet? Maybe like a Beginners Guide to Vegetarianism/Vegan!
Because for a couple of years I was extremely anaemic & lethargic, but put on weight trying to eat enough food for me to feel energetic!
I really want to go back to a healthy, plant based diet and I am trying ... I still eat red meat sometimes trying to get what my body needs, yet I am still anaemic and have to take supplements. I feel like I don't know enough about nutrition, etc. to do it properly.

Also, my boyfriend is a bonafide carnivore, and junk food addict as well - how do I cook delicious food when he generally avoids vegetables even WITH meat?!
I am trying to convert him as he'll need all pistons firing next year to try & get into Uni - a paramedics course (medical & physical tests required!)
PLEASE help me to help him so he can (eventually) help others!

Ps: you are awesome.
Messy Christmas!

Oh my goodness, that's great he slept through the flight. Sweet, laid back little bruddah man!

Okay so I told you before about my boyfriend's mom and how she thinks I'm her food soulmate except for the whole not eating meat thing. She bought me Real Food, as I had expected, and I didn't even get through the first few pages without having so many complaints! SO much of that information is completely false... her "science" behind why animal foods are "far superior"! She just says whatever she wants, no citations at all! She bashes vegetable nutrients after saying how she always ate vegetables as a child and talks about how high LDL isn't bad for you but then talks about why animal foods are good because they don't have high LDL, just that they have a lot of cholesterol! She gets ridiculously specific when it proves her point, like why vegetable proteins are bad, even if they're complete (which why should that matter as long as you're getting all of them at some point) because they don't have enough of some amino acids. Then she's really broad when she talks about milk and how its good for us to drink because it has all three macronutrients, which the body is designed to digest. It is just shocking to me that people can read that and believe everything she says because she's using terminology that they have no clue about! If I wasn't studying nursing or hadn't taken the few nutrition courses I have I would probably have no clue!
Oh my goodness its seriously killing me, the whole time I just wanted to come on here and say all of this to you! Its kind of weird I wanted to talk to you about it but I love love love what you had to say back to me last time! Now I totally understand what you were saying about their science not matching up. I didn't see it as much in Sally Fallon's book because its all dispersed between recipes. But it kills me now, because I agree with all of her points about industrial vs. traditional food production methods, but I don't even know if I can believe some of the stuff she's saying about that now that I spent most of the first three chapters knowing that so much of her bashing veg*n diet it is just so incorrect!

Sorry for that rant but now I just have to figure out how to convince his mom otherwise. I'm pretty sure she just doesn't want me feeding her son vegan meals, but honestly I just want her to know that all of that isn't completely true.

Also I was given Just Food and have to get cracking on that too!

I hope you're having a wonderful week!
