I chose recycled cedar from an old sauna. There’s something about mixing food and rubber that doesn’t sit well with me. This version interlocks together using 45 degree miter joints. If you’re handy, it’ll take you about two hours to construct.

I’ve been doing this on my condo patio, but instead of soil, I always stuff the “rim” (inside hollow part) with moisture holding things like corn cobs, cardboard, thick newspaper, moss, etc. so that the insides will absorb and hold moisture then release it back to the plants slowly. Also, I always pinch off the first set of flowers (it sends more energy to the roots … ie: potatoes!)
