"For residents, this means consumerism and consumption must be made in moderation. My space is limited, so I only buy what I need, and I no longer have the luxury of hording! This may sound scary at first, but in fact it has meant that I am able to invest in fewer, but nicer, choice items. It has allowed me to identify what is actually important, and what is, indeed, just fluff."

This statement really hit home for me. My husband and I are moving cross-country next year (to--wait for it--Portland!) and one of my fears is losing all of my, well, STUFF. If we're lucky we'll only be able to take a small trailer of things to a tiny 350 sq ft studio apartment, and I'm terrified of parting with the various things I've collected since I was a child. I hope I have balls like you do and can get through it.

Also, I've never considered a town home. We too want to be close to the urban sprawl but I want the luxury of having land to till and a home to call my own. It was either a condo with a balcony garden or a house out in BFE. To be honest, Townhomes sound much more attractive now (:

My girlfriend and I currently live in a townhouse in Florida, and we love it! I'm glad to hear there are townhouses in Portland, as we hope to move there one day! :D

The only downside is if you get some unappealing neighbors, but even that is nowhere near as bad as an apartment complex!
